NextCloud Notes Android App doesn't successfully synchronise with server

Keep up the good work, please!

I am using the system intense but now it gets worse and worse with every update.

Notes does not synchronise. Last time it happend I reinstalled the app on Android than it worked untill the next update. For months I have issues with file locking and the notes app.

Upload on Android does not work any more at all. No file upload no Notes functioning.

Now I am typing on Windows because you can only READ from the server on Android. What is happening. It has never been so bad and I am using only a few parts of Nextcloud.

don’t forget to especially mention your androidsystem version (and maybe your manufactorer)

Summary of the issue you are facing:

Nextcloud Notes does not synchronise. It tries to update the Nextcloud server on Samsung Android 16 both on Phone and Tablet

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

I have reinstalled the Notes app. It made no difference. It simply does not update the server.
Turning execute arrow visible for seconds after which it displays: synchronisation failed

Today I looked at the locking of the Notes files in Windows. Two of the Notes files were locked. I unlocked them.

On the Windows machine I changed something and found that the locking was there for the file. I tried on my tablet to work on the same Notes file through the notes app, it did not work work, no messages just waiting signs..

The must be something wrong with the current implementation of file locking…

depending upon the category you initially filed your problem system sets a specific closing-date automatically. which, in fact, keeps active even if the thread was moved.

The problem is not only on my account with our Nextcloud server. My wife also uses NextCloud Notes. She complains about “a moving circle” about one of the notes.

After looking, with Windows client, on her account I removed three locks on her notes. With the removal of the locks on the files the Notes App is happy again.

Other users must have this issue too, but now I have a workaround at least to get things going again.

A new issue with Keepass is also for weeks with as issue. When Keepass exits it displays a warning that it cannot save KeePass.config.xml. This never happened before.

Looking at the file on the server it shows that it is locked?? So I unlock the file KeePass.config.xml on the server, bingo the error from KeePass is gone.

Would be so nice if the “locking Issue” was to be fixed so time in the future..

Jimmy, I am so sorry to be so clumber some.

I am searching for a file locking problem where changes have been made to improve it. As it seems both Apps, KeePass and Notes, suffer from the “file locking” issue.

Now I understand the file locking issue better as I find that this is the problem. I tried to change the name of the Topic of this thread to “NextCloud File Locking prevent Android Apps to successfully synchronise with server”, which I am not allowed to. I hope this is the correct name of the issue.

Sometimes the nextcloud android app break and fails to sync a note. it comes together with a workaround… of course the problem should be addressed properly by the maintainers, though.

As for the Notes problem (if it’s the same) this might close your issue (as we can’t do anything about that here on the forum)

Hi, I had the same problem probably on the same date, 26 September. Note locked by exception. /e/OS says it has to do with the synchronization. The problem with synchronizing happens more often.

Login through a browser. Go to the files section. There is a sub-directory called “Notes”. Go into this directory and you might see a locking sign on the line of the files you are having issues with. I you right click on the file you will see the option to unlock it.
