Hoi, many thnx! I just did not find the unlock option after exploring. I am afraid the Note has gone lost. Thnx anyway!
Hi everyone,
I had the same problem and eventually found out that the Text App is causing it.
When you edit a .md file through the Files app, the Text app locks the file. Once you close the editor or finish editing, the lock is automatically removed without any issues.
The Notes app in the browser also uses the Text app as its editor, but only the editor itself, without the menu on the left. However, when you edit a note in the Notes app, the Text app locks it but fails to release the lock once you’re done editing. As a result, the note remains locked by the Text app. A solution is to deactivate the text app in nextcloud for the moment. The notes app use his own .md editor then.
After running into this issue, along with a few other problems, I decided to develop my own Android Nextcloud Notes app. My app handles these locks and also provides the option to manually remove them directly from within the app.
I don’t think I’m allowed to post a link to my app on the Play Store here, but honestly, I find the Nextcloud Notes app quite frustrating to use for my needs.
I don’t think it’s an issue to post your app here. However, I like the Notes app, and I also think it’s good that it uses the Text app.
That said, and just to put the whole thing into the right context: as you said yourself, the actual problem isn’t the Notes app, but rather Text and its file-locking issues.
I don’t really have a solution for that, because fixing it would likely require a developer to address the issues with the Text app in combination with the File Locking app. Maybe it would be better to put your skills to use there instead of vibe-coding an alternative Notes app as a “workaround” (don’t take that personally if I’m wrong, but these days, the chances are pretty high that I’m right.
).
My own solution/workaround is simply to disable the File Locking app. I only have two users, though, so I don’t really need it anyway. For larger instances, that’s obviously not necessarily a viable solution. ![]()
You’re right, I mixed up two things here. Of course, this isn’t an issue with the Android app. That said, in my opinion, the Android app still has quite a few problems… just take a look at the reviews in the Play Store.
However, I needed a quick solution when moving away from Google’s ecosystem, and I was able to achieve that with a lightweight, well-functioning app. ![]()
I wasn’t aware that you could simply disable the file lock. Thanks for pointing that out! ![]()
Hi @chrissooo
You really don’t wanna post a link to your app here?
I tried to send you a private message, but apparently this forum doesn’t have that option at all.
Because I am not hosting myself, some workarounds here are not Working for me.
However the ongoing sync issues are super frustrating quite since some time.
I would be veeeery happy and grateful if you could Share either a link or, what to type exactly in play store to find it :)) (play store or f-droid?)
Hope you see this and wanna help a fellow brother!
Have a good day and keep doing the good work!
Hi, private messages works, i have send you one.
OMG. Thanks for the information, I was stuck with some Notes (Android) in an infinite syncronizing loop (but not syncronized in my Nextclood instance).
You made my day ![]()
Could I get a link for that app?
Nextcloud notes is an Android App, goto Google Store.
