Nextcloud goes dead when Office Online Server app enabled

I have created a VM with Office Online Server and i can confirm it is working on https://domain/hosting/discovery/ but each time o enable and setup url on NC app, NC becomes unstable and crashes, have to disable app thru .occ to regain access to NC again… Tried on three NC instances all the same.

Please post logs and version info.

Sorry for not posting more details:

  • NC 29.0.6, Office Online app 2.2.1;

  • Lubuntu with snap NC

  • Have this entry on logs:

richdocuments RequestException cURL error 60: SSL certificate problem: self signed certificate (see libcurl - Error Codes) for https://192.168.40.200/extra-apps/richdocumentscode/proxy.php?req=/hosting/discovery

  • Have pfsense with reverse proxy

The thing is that i cannot configure app anymore because as soon i enable it NC becomes unavailable.

I’m confused. Office Online is for integrating an on-premise Microsoft Office Online Server. Both richdocuments (Nextcloud Office) and richdocumentscode (Built-in Collabora Online Development Edition/CODE) are entirely separate.

So are you trying to use Microsoft Office Online or are you trying to use Nextcloud Office/CODE?

A post was split to a new topic: Richdocuments makes Nextcloud unresponsive

richdocuments aka Nextcloud Office is a “connector” and works with different WOPI clients e.g. OOS and OnlyOffice (but definitely CODE/COOL is recommended)

from: https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/richdocuments

This application can connect to a Collabora Online (or other) server (WOPI-like Client). Nextcloud is the WOPI Host.

unfortunately richdocuments readme on Github focus completely on Collabora which might show the direction more clear.

I would focus on this issue. Troubleshooting steps from Collabora integration guide should help with other WOPI clients as well. Most frequent is wrong routing of server to server requests e.g. routing to an IP address or internal interface rather public domain or reverse proxy (in order to get proper TLS connection).

@Borges please edit your post and add details as per required support template.

True enough, but each office platform supports extensions to WOPI. If you use a mismatched integration/connector app (WOPI Server), things may not behave as expected and some features won’t work.

There are already dedicated connector apps for Office Online and OnlyOffice, outside of the the Nextcloud Office/Collabora Online specific one.

Are people using these connectors with non-matched WOPI clients?

The main issue I saw was the richdocumentscode reference. That’s definitely not Office Online so I figured clarification would make sure we don’t steer someone down a stormy path.
