As you might already know weāve hit feature freeze and we made beta 1 available last week. After testing it many issues were fixed and improvements were made.
Today we put the beta 2 for Nextcloud 19 online!\
For this beta we aim to continue testing stability and have apps in the appstore compatible with Nextcloud 19. We want to make sure that upgrades and day to day usage are smooth and as bug-free as possible. Any other feedback, of course, is welcome!
Nextcloud 19 needs testing, bug reporting, bug fixing and some polishing to be perfect. The best time to get involved is now! Here is a list of pending PRās you can help us with!
We have our automated tests and it has gotten some basic smoke testing but no test scheme can replace the myriad of ways you all use Nextcloud, on NAS devices to big iron servers!
As details make the difference we can use your help for small UI improvements, fixes to details ā and of course bugfixes!
If you are new to Nextcloud, youāre more than welcome to get involved ā simply join us on github or check out this page on our website.
Note that translations are very welcome too! We have millions of users and they donāt all read English! Letās make sure 19 is ready for as big a number of users as possible!
Feedback
We appreciate your feedback too- it is a great way to contribute and weād love to hear your thoughts on the new features. Get Beta 2, check yourself whatās new and let us know what you think! As a beta, of course, the main aim of beta 2 is not to reveal the new features of Nextcloud 17, itās a call for help to continue making Nextcloud awesome!
Great to see continued development in Nextcloud
I had a look on my instalation and currently 17 apps are not updated to support NC 19 yet and many of them are blockers for me. But as soon as the important ones get updated Iāll test.
@anon9582441 - please note that beta-versions arenāt meant for production-instancesā¦ iād strongly recommend to have an extra-instance at hand just setup for test-purposes (maybe in a vm or such). and regardless of how and what you decide to do: take backups, backups, backups
But at least browsers have a rather stable interface for extensions so almost all of them run just like they did say 15 versions before. For app developers in Nextcloud it means they have to keep up at least every few months to get their apps compatible.
If you want to discuss specific issues, it is better to do that on github. Perhaps it is already fixed? Check out if there is a bug report/feature request, if there have been fixes (then you can test it), ā¦
There are still null errors. Is NC 19 php 7.4 compatible?

With NC 18 the error wasnāt same. Error PHP Trying to access array offset on value of type null at /var/www/nextcloud/3rdparty/leafo/scssphp/src/Compiler.php#5230
Anyone else seeing issues with the Contacts app after upgrading? The groups do now show, I get just a spinner where the user list should be and a āLoadingā message on the right where the details would normally be.
thanks for the developing such a great tool. However have to tell you, that the group folders app do not obey the trashbin retention time as it was mentioned many time at github. As well, as you can add two identical folder names in the group folder app. So these two ābugsā are quite annoying, if you would like to use NC in a productive environment. The issues and requests are present since a long long time at github. Please see here. The most sad part is that youāve developed now Version 19 and the issues persists since minimum version 15. So what is your next plan to solve these isssues?
I started using GroupFolder app as soon as it been released.
It just donāt work correctly.
So what iāve done is :
Create a standalone user named Ā« Shares Ā» for exemple
Go into that Shares account and then create folders that you share with users. Now you will have a working trashbin.
But only user āSharesā can use this trashbin completely
Well, thatās what I thought too. However Group Folders are practical, since you can configure Folders/Shares and link them to the groups. So a admin cannot see at the first run, whatās in there. Group Folders comply absolutely with our company policy. Of course you can impersonate the user or go into the shell of your data directory. But this is prohibited without having a written permission. So my thought is, that official Group Folder app must obey the trash bin time. Otherwise you have lots of junk in the bin. The workflow of files works well, after a certain time files will be moved to the trash bin.
Yeah i know but this issue made me keeping my distance with this App.
I have two clients with more than 5TB on Nextcloud, and i donāt want to go every month in the trashbin for freeing some space.
Donāt hesitate to do a PING on the issue on GitHub.
