Issues with richdocuments after update to 23.0.2

Nextcloud version (eg, 20.0.5): 23.0.2
Operating system and version (eg, Ubuntu 20.04): Debian 12 (bookworm)
Apache or nginx version (eg, Apache 2.4.25): 2.4.52

The issue you are facing:
After update from 23.0.0 to 23.0.2, which went fine, Nextcloud was very slow/unresponsive. It took about 5 - 10 min to load the login screen. After searching the web I found a hint which was saying that the app richdocuments can drive such issues. After renaming the app folder to richdocuments-bak the performance was immediately back. So it is an issue with richdocuments. Now I am getting errors in the admin logging (I bet due to me chaning the folder name). Also in the Apache logging I see a ton of the messages below.

What should I do now? Disabling the app completely (and how to do this as I think it is no longer shown on the apps screen) or can I bring it back that it is working again without slowing down the system? Thanks in advance!

Yes. Everything related to Collabora seem to be messed up severally. Every update seem to require hours of bug hunting and hacking (that don’t stay persistent).

The only reason I use Nextcloud is Collabora really. I loath using microsoft file type solutions.

PLEASE fix this mess. I don’t know where to start, or where the problem originates.

I gave up on Nextcloud for now. Back to email attachments it is.

Glad I found this! Same thing. It’s been broken since at least early January. I can’t find anything online which is odd, just a few people suggesting you can install old versions of Collabora server (richdocumentscode), but whenever I try that, it forces me to update it else I can’t use Nextcloud

I really would have thought this would be a massive problem that was immediately noticed, especially as they are pushing Nextcloud Office so hard. Surely we’re not the only three people in existence who don’t use external Collabora servers!?

I’ve just been playing around running a CODE server with Docker following this tutorial, and now even when the Collabora server is unreachable (ie. I turn it off), I no longer get this error, which is interesting

However, documents don’t load, but secondary issue I guess!

I am on NC 22.2.5 at the moment (stable channel)

When NC 23.0.x will be offered for upgrade → is Collabora active by default?
If YES, is it possible to run NC 23.0.x without any Collabora AddOn?

I am using a docker container ONLYOFFICE version 7.x installed via this installation guide
→ Nextcloud mit ONLYOFFICE - Carsten Rieger IT-Services

All is smooth for now, so for the moment i will keep this combination of NC + ONLYOFFICE (docker).

Hope this is possible and hope with that i can leave many of the bugs contained in NC 23 behind.

Thanks for reporting, the error message looks a bit unexpected for the request to the richdocumentscode app request, so for that specific one maybe you could file an issue at https://github.com/CollaboraOnline/richdocumentscode with the exact version you use for the individual apps. In addition your Webserver configuration and the current contents of .htaccess might be interesting, as the request should not trigger the Nextcloud stack, rather only the proxy.php of richdocumentscode.

When using a Docker-based CODE server connection issues might report something different either in the Nextcloud/COOL logs or browser console, that could help to narrow down the issue.

It’s not broken, per se, they have made changes to the internal folder naming of the docker container (changed folder names from lool to cool) and now your reverse proxy settings need to be changed. They didn’t tell anyone they did that…

I am aware of this, and it would make sense if

A) it worked when I took the reverse proxy out of the question

B) it worked with the updated reverse proxy settings

Though that said, it doesn’t seem to work with an “external” Collabora server (even without reverse proxy), so sod knows at this point. It worked flawlessly with the built in server on 21

Looks like I’m another individual having the same issues: NextCloud Office (richdocuments) 5.0.2 freezes/hangs apache

I get the same errors in the nextcloud log:

  • OCP\AppFramework\QueryException: Could not resolve OCA\Richdocuments\PermissionManager! Class “OCA\Richdocuments\PermissionManager” does not exist
  • OCP\AppFramework\QueryException: Could not resolve OCA\Richdocuments\Capabilities! Class “OCA\Richdocuments\Capabilities” does not exist

I don’t use nginx or any other type of proxy.

Anyone updated to Nextcloud 23.0.3 yet?

Just did it to try it out, and now CODE server installs and no longer freezes up, but Nextcloud Office won’t keep built in CODE server as the selected option, it just reverts back to “use my own server”

I have the same results. They fixed something that keeps the whole system from locking up when Office is attempted, but Office still doesn’t work, it just no longer breaks everything else too.

Just because I’m already on this train, I upgraded to 23.0.4 and the system lock up bug is back :grin: I really want to like Nextcloud, and it has so much awesome potential, but I find it strange that they are trying to sell NC as a business product when it’s so full of bugs - mind you, Microsoft have managed to do that with Teams and SharePoint
