Can't see PDF files

Hi everyone,

  • “fresh” install of nextcloud with docker
  • ubuntu 24.04
  • nginx-proxy
  • PDF Viewer already disabled and enabled

When opening a PDF files it comes out “black”:

Console:

No problem from iOS or Android as the pdf opens with the built-in pdf viewer, other files are fine.

docker compose file:

First time writing on this forum, sorry if made something wrong.

Hello @Craf, welcome to the Nextcloud community.

you posted twice  and didn’t fill the required support template… but honestly I don’t think it would help in this case.

It looks the dark theme is somewhat unreadable. From my testing pdf viewer and office follow system setting for dark theme. In my case pdf itself looks good but I see similar issue in the menu bar

in office it is more or less opposite - menu bar is good but some documents look weird

others even more:

nice catch from collabora forum - choosing “automatic” color makes text readable again (same doc as in the 1st screenshot):

for Nextcloud I see this Github issue:

it doesn’t exactly fit my testing - for me the files, photos, activity, settings, dashboard apps have perfect contrast (on desktop nc31), unreadable icons only appear in pdf reader. but I’m too lazy to search further - you should have enough trails to follow

Hi @wwe,

thanks so much for your response.
I’ve tried switching the theme to both light and dark, but the issue remains, the PDF still doesn’t display. The error in the console is:

Cannot read properties of null (reading ‘getElementById’)

Do you think this might be related to my problem?

I don’t think there is generic issue - for me it works in multiple instances, I would rather assume issues with your pdf. Your screenshot looks like you have an “empty:question: document… maybe the reader can’t open it for some reason. Try the one which is shipped to each new user by default - likely it works.

Ok, I’ve discovered that the issue was browser-related (Edge). The PDFs display correctly in other browsers. I’m currently looking for a solution, and I’ll update this thread if I find one. If anyone has any tips or suggestions, I’d be grateful to hear them!
