Tabs.digital free plan isn't what it is

So, I got the free plan from tabs.digital (product URLs at https://fie.nl.tab.digital ). Next day I got an email saying:

An administrator added you to group FREE1809

Anyways, account is unusable.

When I navigate to files: Login – Nextcloud

It says I have 59.6MB storage instead of 8GB and it’s all used by whatever place holder they put in there.

I thought these hosting providers would be high quality options since they are FOSS friendly. Thought at least I would ditch google contact and calendar using this hosting provider: tabs.digital.

So far, the experience is no good, mostly non functional panel without access to any support. If you click on any support option it basically tells you to upgrade!!

tabs.digital is total crap of Nextcloud!

@atiq welcome to the communityforum of Nextcloud where volunteers spend their sparetime trying to help other users with their problems.

so you might have already understood that the broad majority here isn’t connected to Nextcloud, the company… and isn’t paid by anyone from the company.

apart from that tab.digital is no company owned by Nextcloud. They use the community version of NC for free (which is completely allowed and legal) to do their thing and offer their service and to make their business from it. If you think you face problems with their service their support is your first choice to get in touch with.

ummm… maybe your instance is saying something like “59.6MB storage used”?
afaik tab.digital offers 8GB of storage for free and usually the keep their word on that. plus . ca 60MB used would make sense since the common installation-routine set up some example-files for you (can be fully deleted).

well tbh I dunno why you said that. Do you think that sentece will make you look good and raise your image on this forum? apart from the fact that - I repeat - tab.digital is a company of their own. Like: someone gave you a car for free to fully use it at your will. but you don’t pick it at the company that offers it to you, no you want someone driving it for you as well. and so you get your car from a company that offers maintaining and driving it for you. again: for free - as long as you can cope with only 8 gallons of fuel. Hooray: you can start it and it shows “less than 1% of your 8 gallons of fuel is already used” and so you blame the company that originally build the car for giving you the shice? that’s ridiculous, right?

well first and foremost that is YOUR PoV on something. It doesn’t automatically mean that you are right with what YOU think.
So let me get that staight for you: every hosting provider is a company of their own. the goal of comopanies usually is: making money from their business in order to pay their bills, their employees and taxes (etc). they user THEIR know how in setting up a nextcloud-instance for THEIR clients on THEIR hardware.
do you see any “FOSS friendly” in there? or any “high quality”-promise? No. Since that’s not neccessarily part of any deal here (and I neither said nor meant that any hosting provider wouldn’t offer high quality hosting - I simply can’t tell because I don’t know). THEY can offer whatever THEY want. It’s THEIR business. Which has nothing to do with Nextcloud, the software nor Nextcloud, the company.

So here’s a few things you can do

  • learning to read correctly
  • leaving tab.digital and look for a different provider who offers a free plan
  • hosting NC yourself
  • choosing a different product to store your calendars
  • learning how to communicate at least friendly

Here’s the screenshot of the account:

Do you see on above screenshot that total storage isn’t what advertised?

Also, did you limit my account? I can’t post / edit anything, and rate limited..

What if you got a new hosting provider, you find nothing to be working, won’t you be frustrated? So, what did I do wrong?

Well, I mean… It’s clearly an error on their part. The fact that the maximum storage is exactly the same as the amount currently used by all the template files suggests to me that they probably assigned you a zero storage quota, which is likely a mistake on their part rather than something intentional.

I guess you’re allowed to be frustrated when something you signed up for doesn’t work as advertised, regardless of whether it’s free or not. I’d personally still make a distinction between the two, though. As I said above, it was probably just a mistake when the account was provisioned, and mistakes can happen regardless of whether you’re using FOSS or expensive proprietary software.

Whether it makes sense to vent your frustration here is a different matter. The problem has nothing to do with Nextcloud, but exclusively with Tab.Digital, which is not associated with Nextcloud or this forum.

Venting your frustration here also won’t help you solve the actual problem, because the only people who can help you with this are Tab.Digital themselves.
