Question on Android 3.30.6 and auto upload

My phone was just updated from the old 3.29.2 version of the Android gplay app to the new 3.30.6 version.

I understand that some things have changed due to google restrictions.

I have a question about the automatic upload. In 3.29.2 the upload of a new photo was almost instant (it did have the annoying “preparing upload message”, but at least it was fast).

How are uploads scheduled/triggered in 3.30.6? At least it seems very slow compared to 3.29.2. Is there a timer that we can change to increase the upload speed?

Don’t say there is a bug or an issue, just trying to figure out how it now works or should work.

Many thanks.

Same here. Auto-upload seems pretty erratic with 3.30.6
Permissions pop up, although they were already granted previously.
Granting permissions again and checking energy saving options etc. does not change the erratic behavior.
Sometimes photos appear on server short after they were shot, sometimes not within 30 minutes.
Client 3.29.0 on another phone works as expected. Within one minute photos appear on the server.

thanks for your work

Same here. 3.30.6 and not uploading a thing since 15-Dec…

And I couldn’t get it to upload, despite pausing/unpausing the Auto-uploads. Giving access to all files, battery usage, etc…

Really don’t know what’s going on.

Same thing here, 3.30.6 updated from Google Play store. Had to renew perms, but auto-upload stopped working.

Just realized mine updated to 3.30.6on the 5th of December, and COMPLETELY stopped uploading anything after 12/16.
Is there no fix for this?

Seems to be an issue with Google store version and new restriction.

Best option as of today is to install Nextcloud from F-Droid store if I understand correctly. See here :

I just reset the Settings > auto Upload and it’s working now … It was stopped since 16th Dec for me.

Like how? I did the following and didn’t work:

  1. Disable auto upload for a partículas folder, “Camera” for instance (or all).
  2. Save.
  3. Close Nextcloud client.
  4. App options, force close. Check that all permissions are there, including “unrestricted” in battery options for background processing.
  5. Reopen Nextcloud client.
  6. Enable auto upload for that folder (or all).
  7. Save.
  8. Nothing happens.

Do I need to clear cache and data? Reprocess all files will take ages :frowning:

Hope a fix comes soon

It works for NEW pics and videos, and not for the ones that were missed after 15th Dec. Try taking new pics it will upload.

Correct. It’s working. New pics are being uploaded.

But having a hard time copying the ones that are missing.

If I go to my gallery, then select all missing files, and sending them to NextCloud, the app do not copy all selected. Kind of random instead… But no more than 4 files at a time.

For me, after re-accept permissions for the app to access all images of my device, it’s working ok for all folders (Camera, Adobe Lightroom, etc.) except from WhatsApp sent/received images.
I guess that is due to WhatsApp files are stored inside Android app folder and not in Pictures/DCIM folders (where the rest of images are stored and that are properly auto uploaded). I don’t know why, Nextcloud app cannot see WhatsApp images (Android/media/com.whatsapp/Media/WhatsApp Images). I tried to manually configure this folder to be sync to Nextcloud server but the app doesn’t detect any image…
Any ideas on this?
Thanks all

Did you check the uploaded pictures on your server?
in my case they will be stored in camera\2025\01\storage\emulated\0\dcim\Camera
instead of
camera\2025\01
If the upper folder-tree does not exist, the uploads fail and in the “uploads” folder of the android-app will be shown under the filename
“camera\2025\01\storage\emulated\0\dcim\Camera”

If you have WhatsApp conversations or groups with expiry dates, then photos cannot be downloaded, because they are stored in a different way/different location (don’t know the details).

For messages without expiration, photos should be visible and you should be able to automatically download them.
