Hi,
I noticed that with the mobile client, when automatic upload is enabled and I take a photo for example, I have to open the app for the upload to start.
So the upload does not start automatically in the background right after taking the photo.
Is there a way to make files upload automatically without having to open the app ?

Yes, it’s the same on iOS, has been like this for over a year: you need to keep the app opened and active to upload new photos, even though Background App Refresh is enabled. It used to work and broke some time early last year, I think. There was a period in 2025 that the iOS client was nearly constantly broken in various ways so I’m glad it even works this much now.

Sorry, but that’s not the same thing.
The OP is experiencing a specific issue whereby auto-upload only works when the app is in the foreground. As far as I am aware, this is a known issue on iOS.
Your issue is with the Android version and it seems that uploads are not working at all. So please start a new thread and complete the support template.
By the way, I use GrapheneOS myself on a Pixel 7 with version 34.0.1 from F-Droid, and I cant’t reproduce this. Both automatic and manual uploads work fine on my device.
Exactly, this is not “same thing”: upload works fine as long as you have the app opened and you’re not even running stock Android. How is this “same thing” to you?
