"Photos app": Why is there an "Upload folder" option and why does it create directories uncommanded?

Having just had to upgrade a Nextcloud installation to v31, the Gallery function got replaced with something called Photos that asks you to configure specific media directories (which is OK I guess if it can’t cope with doing the whole file tree efficiently), and also has an “Upload folder” configuration option, with no explanation whatsoever of what it does or why would anyone want it (the phone application already has all the configuration options required).

It sets this “Upload folder” option to a default of “Photos” and, at the same time, it appears to create an unwanted /Photos directory in the server.

So, how do I unset this “Upload folder” value? It does not seem to serve any useful purpose whatsoever.

PS: In fact, I do not see what the point of the “Media folders” option is either, since there is a “Folders” option in the left sidebar that can be used to navigate to any arbitrary directory.

What system are you talking about?
Can you plrease sort your thoughts and fill out the Support Template, that we can understand, what your problem is?

I only read something about upgrade to Nextcloud 31 server, Gallery App, Photos and upload folder. The server has no gallery App, and does not create upload folders.

You’re quite correct, my previous message is unclear due to lacking context.

I was referring to the Photos application, which I understand to be a replacement to the earlier Gallery application.

The Photos application has a “Photo settings” control in the sidebar on the left-hand side. It is not clear to me what purpose those configuration settings serve, if any, and the application seems to be lacking proper documentation where I could look up these details.
