I’m interested in hearing your thoughts and experiences with OnlyOffice vs Collabora when used with Nextcloud. I’d like to compare them on a few key dimensions, so we can get a clearer idea of what works best (or what trade-offs there are).
I’m looking forward to all your amazing feedback and insights!
Do you consider only features of each software or also ease to install and maintain ? open source or don’t care ? ….
Here using CODE (Collabora free version on a shared hosting server with multiple Nextcloud instances and it works quite well (out of IoS devices where it doesn’t works so great but out of it everything good).
I installed it using the deb version (server is running Debian) not using Docker !
I’m Darshan, a contributor at Collabora. I also enjoy helping people with COOL setups on the Collabora forumProfile - darshan - Collabora Online . As a Collabora developer, I’m eager to learn what people like about Collabora Online the features they enjoy, the things they dislike so that I can help improve it further.
I came across this comparison thread and it really excited me. As a opensource contributor, I’d simply like to ask everyone about their opinions and experiences to understand the current situation better.
I didn’t try OnlyOffice so far as I choose CODE from the beginning and I’m happy with it. From what I know OnlyOffice claims better support for MS as main advantage.. I have no demand for it and also dislike the ribbon interface - for this reason I prefer CODE..
The biggest pain point from my point of view is the complex integration:
Many hobby admins struggle with the mechanics of WOPI and some even fail to follow detailed guides like Collabora Integration guide
others try to trick the connections into local network to avoid the “internet loop” like discussed in Local access for Collabora
more feedback on CODE vs OO config is mentioned in the same thread comment #10
I am a school principal and operate both my own Nextcloud with Nextcloud Office and OnlyOffice, as well as the Nextcloud with Nextcloud Office provided by the state of Schleswig-Holstein (Germany). After the recent update to Nextcloud Hub 25 (NC32), Nextcloud Office has become so much better to use. I can really see that in the GUI. Today, I created two complex tables in Nextcloud Office from scratch and have now switched over to using it. I hope that my employer will soon install the new version of Nextcloud Office so that I can work with it there as well. With the old version, I wasn’t able to switch from MS Office at work. Now it might actually work out. Thank you very much for the work on Nextcloud Office!
