Recently I had the wonderful discovery of noticing on the latest NextCloud clients the status symbol has been downgraded via a ânewâ branded status symbol..
Same thing with the waffle menu, and now this evening I notice a NextCloud billboard/hyperlink on a clientâs site soliciting someone to sign up for NextCloud.
Very tacky. Akin to a printer placing their logo on my office stationery.
So in case some devs have missed the news: a small team has vibe-coded an entire replacement of Adobeâs Creative Cloud in 4 weeks. These cleanroom builds could not have been accomplished even earlier this year with any of the frontier or local models.
As someone with 20+ years experience in Photoshop, the apps are not perfect, but boy are they close. Way closer than GIMP could ever hope in its decades long failing.
So hereâs the point: old model of Commercial software is over. The world is changing. Keep ignoring customers and worsening the User Experience at your own peril.
Keep stuffing in branding, increasing mouse clicks to accomplish the same task, and wedging in sign-up links on a userâs self-hosted public share page because âyou know bestâ what the user wants/needs.
There is a reason people will pay $1,000âs of dollars more for an Apple product: the experience. A million little ways they respect the user and increase a userâs efficiency.
