Nextcloud iOS vs Android app

My config: Nextcloud on Truenas and Collabora.

I have been using Nextcloud for years and I love it. It works perfectly within my browser desktop or mobile browser.

I was using the app on iOS (iPhone 13 mini), it never failed, no significative bugs I could preview all files (pdf, docx, xlx,…), share files through email or Whatsapp (not only links), and download.

Recently I have migrated to a Google Pixel 11. In the browser everything works perfectly but using the app is a disaster: pdf files cannot be opened directly, download of any file doesn’t work, shares files only through links.

I have tried to change default app to “secure pdf viewer” (GrapheneOS) and I disabled Google Files and Google Drive. But still pdf files cannot be opened touching it. It can be opened through Collabora through the three dots menu and “modify” but it is buggy.

Nextcloud is great and I won’t stop using it but Android app needs a good polish.

I am about to switch back to Apple iOS…it just works!

hey and welcome @keryo to the community world of Nextcloud.

as I don’t run a graphene-driven device I can’t really follow your problems.
All I can say is: most probably it’s no problem of nextcloud or its client (though we don’t know which versions you are running of each affected software - sadly enough you decided to remove our template - but you still could fill in our beloved support template) … it might be the way graphene handles the client.

You need to know that grapheneOS isn’t natively supported by NC in any way… but I know they have a pretty active community of their own, so maybe they could help you along with your problems.

But pls think about you’re coming from iOS (which apparently “just works” for the price of grabbing all your data) to an unofficial custom ROM that works with some Android devices (completely de-googled to protect your data). And thus it’s still what I would call an “open beta-version”. of course you better expect certain problems while using it. As much as I can understand that you want to be the master of your own data it’s still a big step from a well-integrated OS (like iOS) to such a thing as graphene.

using GrapheneOs on Pixel8 without any issues whatsoever…

some more information would be useful, like which Android app version you’re using and from where you installed it?

that’s heresay, but if its your best solution :check_mark:

I am using Pixel 11, Android 17, all standard. Nextcloud app is the latest available on Google Play Store. I am not using GrapheneOS neither have I degoogled the phone. (The misunderstanding could come frome the PDF viewer I have tried to use and produced by GrapheneOS. I did so because the standard google PDF reader didn’t work)

ummm… afaik FF is able to show pdfs. even on Android.
