NCP Upgrade Notices

Newbie question:

Is there a mailing list that I need to subscribe to ensure that my NextcloudPi stays current with applicable releases (subject to the standard community supported caveat)?

As an original Nextcloud in a Box (the old WD labs experiment) user, I didnā€™t pay attention to upgrade notices and paid the price of my negligence. :worried: This time around I donā€™t want to lag behind. Any guidance on staying current is welcome. Thanks.

Regards.

@baqwas if youā€™re referring to the snap, see here Home Ā· nextcloud-snap/nextcloud-snap Wiki Ā· GitHub and here GitHub - nextcloud-snap/nextcloud-snap: ā˜ļøšŸ“¦ Nextcloud packaged as a snap

can you please check if you running the snap version or NCP

sudo snap list --all

and post the output

if it is the snap version, then you can track the upgrade news right here, because the snap is currently very much on track with the default upstream Nextcloud.

see FAQā€™s

Q: Why is Nextcloud snap version out of sync with upstream Nextcloud?

Nextcloud snap is designed to be easy to install and simple to maintain. The ideal Nextcloud snap is an ā€œinstall and forgetā€ Nextcloud instance that works on most architectures and updates itself without needing administrative skills. Combining Nextcloud with snapd makes it a perfect fit for IoT or scalable environments. Snapd is a secure and robust technology which the Nextcloud snap team has embraced.

The Nextcloud snap team packages a stable default upstream Nextcloud, adds some snap magic, tests and releases that snap package. Since the Nextcloud snap team are neither upstream Nextcloud developers nor app developers, they need to ensure that the default Nextcloud snap does what it should. That entails packaging a stable default Nextcloud and testing fresh installs as well as automated updates, so that the Nextcloud snap community has peace of mind.

Sometimes the Nextcloud snap team needs to wait for some Nextcloud issues to be resolved upstream before releasing a stable default Nextcloud snap to the public. Some upstream changes may need more snap magic to ensure that it simply works, which requires careful configuration and testing. This excludes any non default third party apps!

Thanks, @scubamuc,

NCP, I believe, because I ran the bash script for it. Donā€™t know where the installed version number for NCP can be viewed.

$ sudo snap list -all
sudo: snap: command not found
$ uname -a
Linux raspberrypi 6.6.74+rpt-rpi-v8 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.6.74-1+rpt1 (2025-01-27) aarch64 GNU/Linux
$
  • Notes, basically unusable owing to sluggishness, is at Version 4.11.0
  • Cookbook, stopped working a few days after install, is at Version 0.11.2
  • Updates tab on the left-nav bar indicate 10 but when I select the tab I get the message All apps are up-to-date

Guess you know where Iā€™m coming from! :grinning:

Regards.

Thanks, @tflidd, since I donā€™t logon as ncp generally, my memory decayed. Iā€™ll bookmark the link.

Regards.

I messed up big time! :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I used the admin GUI to enable updates. Then rebooted. And now all attempts to log on generate the following message:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator if this error reappears multiple times, please include the technical details below in your report.
More details can be found in the server log.

What is the recommended recovery path? Thanks.

Regards.

As written, check the Nextcloud server log file to find-out what the server is hindering to start.
