My screen share is blank when sharing in Talk

Good evening. I’ve been having a great deal of trouble with trying to resolve an issue I have. Using nextcloud talk when I start screen sharing with a few of my cohorts it shows up blank on their end. They can show me their screen just fine but when I share screen I sometimes need to reshare my screen multiple times in order for it to have a chance to work.

I have to admit I used a free turn server from the openrelayproject before they stopped that practice so now I don’t have one. I technically do have the free one from their account but I’m unsure how to add that to my server.

Would anyone be able to help me figure this out?

hey @Shaquan_Paige welcome back :waving_hand:,

before we start guessing what setup you’re using: Support template. Please use this when you request support

you could host your own STUN, TURN and signalling HPB:

Thanks for the reply and I’ll get that info. Just for my edification…there isn’t a command to have the terminal display that information in one go. Admittedly it might take me a bit of digging to recover a couple of those details.

But side stepping that for a sec I do need to ask, we’re supposed to set the coturn up on a server separate from the one hosting the nextcloud right? Preferably not in your home network? I feel like this is a given but reading the manual it doesn’t specify it. Trying to do that on my own I just see some folks using a external host to make a turn server and I was hoping to try to handle this with no subscription charges.

short answer, “no!”… you can set up Talk:HPB on the same host… but we’re still guessing

sure, if you’re running a snap… see run the debugging script before raising an issue, but we’re still guessing

Installation method (e.g. AIO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.): All in one.
Are you using Cloudflare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No): No

Here is what I have.

consider updating to Hub10 v. 30 or 31… Talk:HPB is included in AIO, so you shouldn’t need to do anything else as long as you configure Talk in AIO correctly: see

especially:

Please do not forget to open port 3478/TCP and 3478/UDP in your firewall/router for the Talk container!

Sorry for the delay. Work life balance isn’t great.

I made a mistake. I didn’t do the all in one install. Its been a while so please forgive me. I remember doing it piece meal with setting this up one part at a time. Using Lamp and installing Nextcloud using the manual.

How would I go about updating to the next Hub release. I’ve just been using the in place update tool in the admin settings.

Concerning talk HPB I think I need to manually implement that since I did not do AIO like I thought.

It appears I did not set up Talk as well as I would have liked but it to recap my situation:

  • I use the nextcloud Stun default: stun.nextcloud.com:443 Looks like it works just fine to me.
  • Open relay project isn’t open any longer: staticauth.openrelay.metered.ca
  • I have to make my own Turn server but can it be used on the same server that hosts nextcloud or should it be on a different box?
  • Get HPB working just for more fidelity and consistency with Talk.
  • Upgrade Nextcloud HUB to latest build.
  • Pray to tech Jesus that I can do this.

no worries, we’re all juggling with that… you’re welcome

… that’s where you’ll find the update instructions too, see

… this is fairly simple, one size fits all, thanks to AIO-team and recommended in official docs, see

… that’s no mistake, you’ll be fine :+1: or simply ask the community
