I have Nextcloud (31.0.8) with “Office Online Integration” app.
The issue I noticed is that editing takes place in the same browser tab, in the app settings there’s no option to allow opening such office documents in a new tab.
Hello @elekgeek,
welcome to the community of Nextcloud
You started a topic in support category. Unfortunately you ignored the template and a lot of information to help you is missing. Please edit your original post and add all required details like Nextcloud version, webserver type and version, os version, related log file content. Use the support template.
Without additional information the community members cannot help you.
assuming your topic heading was a typo, we’re going to ignore the first word… maybe you’d like me to edit that heading?
yeah, confimed!
one gets used to cloning the tab to edit a different/new document. that’s how browser editing works. remember, its not a local program, its like a “website“ in a tab for editing.
come to think of it - not having any comparison, does it work any differently with other online office services?
As a workaround, you can open the file with a middle-click or by holding down the CTRL key while clicking on it. At least with the Collabora integration this works, and I assume it should also work with the Office Online app.
I’m afraid not, but using Nextcloudis already is a step in the right direction. Maybe Office will follow suit at some point.
Seriously though, I’m not trying to convince anyone to switch away from MS Office. I guess there are still valid reasons not to, such as compatibility issues with free and open-source alternatives. But honestly, I use Office so rarely that I can’t really make a solid judgment on that.
This is definitely not happening on my end. I’ve tried it on Nextcloud 31.0.8 and Nextcloud Office 8.7.4 on multiple instances, using both the latest CODE Docker and the built-in server. Documents always open in the current tab when I open them by left-clicking, and I don’t remember it ever being different. (Linux, Firefox and Chromium)
Are you maybe using a browser extension or a custom about:config setting that might be causing this? Or, is there a Nextcloud Office configuration parameter that isn’t exposed in the UI?
No, I use the default browser settings as well as the settings in Nextcloud on my ThinkPad. Maybe there is a different behavior between Nectcloud 30 and 31.
The “CTRL” before the hyphen is missing. This happened in your previous post as well, which is why I got confused.
But why are you even quoting my post in the first place, only to then say the exact same thing you quoted in slightly other words?
Anyway, I’ve now marked my first post (the one you quoted) as the solution, to hopefully spare others who might find this thread from getting confused.
The < and > characters have a different function in the forum software
and they are control-characters here.
So the text "<Ctrl>" becomes invisible here.
