List of VM's in spreadsheet in download.kafit.se

I have no support/technical question and have seen the support category. (Be aware that direct support questions will be deleted.)

Which general topic do you have

A) In the file obtained a spreadsheet from the site Compare-VMs.ods - Nextcloud VM
Looking at the VM sheet, there are 40GB 500GB 1TB and 2TB, as I have installed VMWare.
Holding Control and clicking 40GB it shows unable to connect however the other three work as expected.

B) If I look at Nextcloud VM – T&M Hansson IT AB I see for vmware 100GB, 500GB 1TB and 2TB, so I think to myself that is why the 40GB in A) above did not complete.

C) Staying on hanssnit.se I see the 100GB is free, being a pensioner I like to try things out before I invest. So I goto download Nextcloud VM Pre-installed – 100 GB. where I see hub9 hub 10 testing and a link to a torrent. but which one do I use? All I know is that I must get an X.ova, I decide on the HUB10. Is this what I should do?

D) reading tells me it was packed with 7zip, I go to a windows laptop which has 7zip installed and download the 2.3GB I unpack it and it informs me of malformed headers, I download it multiple times and each time it shows corrupt. I inform hannsinit.se via the contact form after unzipping with various programs and using various systems for the download. I received no response. So I think the source file is corrupt. Can anyone else get an error free download of this file?

E) whilst I am waiting for a reply I decide to use VMplayer to load the ova which was produced by the 7zip and see what happens. the file was loaded with no errors - but I am in doubt with the rest of the setup.

So questions in brief

  1. should I be downloading a different file for my testing?
  2. Is the 30.0.2 etc .ova corrupt on the site?
  3. to extract files from the downloaded file with 7zip please advise the exact command just in case I cannot do that properly .
    Thanks for your time

so do I press create topic or close to continue?

David

as you are looking at https://kafit.se/ resources I think you better reach to their support.

In general I would recommend a “managed Nextcloud” for unexperienced users or Nextcloud AiO for beginners in self-hosting see → 101: Self-hosting information for beginners

the free ova can be imported as is. It is a straight ova file. No need to unzip. The larger ones are ziped.

Hello, thank you for your reply, I already have a fully working SSL NextcloudPi installation but I wanted to put Nextcloud on a 64 bit HP pc.

In the past two weeks I reckon I have tried every version available of Nextcloud following various videos on youtube and written scripts. I was trying to steer away from snap so that imposes a restriction.

Each time I start from a fresh ubuntu 24.04.2 image with various stages of modification all with the help of ventoy and clonezilla and each endpoint I save with clonezilla for restoration when required. I have tried nextcloudaio v10.12.0.

I never seem to quite get what I need, so eventually I will achieve nginx proxy manager so that not only can I get to nextcloud with lets encrypt on pc, but also my second pi containing all other apps without ‘wasting’ one url on nextcloud and leaving other things not working.

So with the 64bit pc running vmware and free 100GB nextcloud from hanssonit I hope to get one step nearer before I bite the bullet and pay for an image.

every modern variant works well including snap, docker and AiO - if you fail to setup I think there is something wrong on your side - either specific settings/requirements or lack of knowledge.

I don’t see VM should differ from other installation variants in terms of

without ‘wasting’ one url on nextcloud

or why another URL should be a problem? IMO with letsencrypt free TLS certificates there is no reason anymore to combine multiple application on one URL.
