Nextcloud is designed for both corporate and home users. What is unfortunately often misunderstood is the fact that Nextcloud can be operated at home, on the Internet e.g. own server or provided by companies as a Managed Nextcloud (single user or full Nextcloud).
To get started, you should get a Nextcloud account with a Nextcloud hoster. You can even get one for free. There are free providers with several GB of storage. However, if you want to store important data, for example, you can either get a Nextcloud user or your own Nextcloud on the Internet for a few dollars or euros per month.
If you tell us which country you come from, we can look up a few providers for you. Also write how much data you want to store and whether you need it for one or more people.
You can use e.g. https://cloud.tab.digital . For paid accounts you can configure the place “Netherlands”. There you can get the product NEXTCLOUD ONE for only one user (more data but only one user). You can get a 8 GB free account. But i think you can max get 512 GB per paid account. Personally, I don’t think it’s really necessary to store all data in a cloud. Perhaps you can minimise the data. Maybe you can ask for more storage. Maybe you can use two accounts.
@Kerfanto welcome to the beautiful world of NC and it’s community.
This is possible, for sure, as it is one of the basic features of Nextcloud.
that’s pretty much stuff to host on an external hoster. Of course there are offers that will grant you as much storage. But it’ll cost you a dime, I bet. On the other hand I think storing 1TB of data will cost you a little fortune on Dropbox as well. So you need to compare all offers, I guess.
it can be run by homeusers as well. But it would need at least a little interest in the major subject of cloudstorage, linux etc and for sure it’ll need some time for mainting it at times. I dunno how experienced you are as a user. If you are a rookie it sure enough will be easier to get an (paid) account on some webhoster doing all the maintaining for you (like @devnull tol you). If you think you’d give it a try I’d suggest to try Nextcloud AiO which is pretty easy to set up at your home and which is pretty well documented. Though it means a bit of work for you to get the inital setup done.
