Hi, same error here, over and over again. I’m using Nextcloud 18.01 but it was also happening persistently in 18.00 after I’d upgraded to PHP 7.4.

Good news is I don’t notice any broken functionality.

Yeah no broken thing but I asssume it CAN break nextcloud performance because its logging every 15/20 minutes dunno whats happening when log is filling up or when the error causing problems in code…

I was running into this same issue, along with a couple other issues. I’m not sure exactly what step fixed the issue for me, but I modified the php.ini file

post_max_size = 20G

upload_max_filesize = 20G

Originally they were 20GB. I’m not sure if GB was correct or causing problems. Then I had to restart php-fpm. Once I did that the errors stopped filling up my logs.

Or it could just have been restarting php-fpm did the trick.

SOLVED: Nextcloud Logs "Trying to access array offset on value of type null" Repeatedly

I’m no PHP expert, but changing the first line of that function into if (isset($args[2]) && isset($args[2][1]) && $args[2][1] == 0) { adds a null check to the $args[2][1] and seems to stop the message from appearing at my instance without any other effects (but how can you be sure in a source with 5000+ lines). I’m using a combination of Redis and APCu caching.

Just wanted to pop in and say that I face the same problem. PHP 7.4, NC 18.0.4
For me it spams the log with 3-4 minute intervals, and it spits out about 300-400 lines every time.

Hi @buzz, yes, you’re right, that’s what happens if I don’t test everthing

Anyway, the reason is that my addition only checks if $args[2][1] is set for the remainder of that if statement, so the rest of that ill-written function can still throw null pointers around. So another dirty hack without knowing any side effects would be to bail out at the top when either $args[2] or $args[2][1] isn’t set:

if (!isset($args[2]) || !isset($args[2][1])) {
     return static::$nullString;
}

Again, it seems to work for me, but use at your own peril. I really can’t be bothered to look into PHP testing, sorry.

Not only did the above “fix” not work for me, but the single recurring error I had before is now replaced with two recurring errors caused by the Complier.php file.

I would not expect a real fix for this for a while, likely not May (NC19).

I changed memory_limit lower than 2G and problem was solwed
max_upload_size e.t.c. left as it is…
