I saw some old topics in the forum about the same but no direct solution.
This is from an old v19 installation that suddenly broke the server encryption for a group of 30 members. None of their files can be downloaded by the group members. But me as Admin can get the files ok so nothing is entirely lost.
I have now upgraded to v30 with a big fuzz to get v26 installed in my Debian server (no docker). Managed by downloading the v26 installation package manually and push it in to overcome the PHP v8.2.26 problem that the v25 installer could not handle. So at least it is now a fully upgraded version I am dealing with…
I read that things gets very complicated with server encryption turned on and what I understand it is this encryption that is causing the issues.
Can I disable server encryption and get all files decrypted automatically and by doing that possibly solve the problem or what can I do in this situation?
It would be helpful if you filled out the support template rather than ignoring it.
We need more context, such as:
What you mean by “can’t be downloaded”
Are these users using the Web UI or a desktop/mobile client or what?
What happens precisely?
And what is the full log entry (we need the stack trace)? etc.
What type of External Storage the files reside on
Your config
etc

You can certainly decrypt the files then disable encryption (see the Admin Manual for the process). Whether that will be successful in your case, is unclear at this point.
I installed the sync client and synced everything, as admin, to my local drive.
Moved out all the files and folders from the synced folder causing the server to delete all files.
I then put the folders back in to the sync folder again. When they re-emerged on the web page then everyone could read the files again.
It solved the issue to be able to read the files without finding the real cause. Of course all shared links has been lost in the process but that is a minor problem in this case.
Next step is to get rid of that server encryption thingie’ once and for all. But that is a battle for another day…
