WOHOOO, great work!

really amazing work indeed⊠
@Andy I have just downloaded the app and it looks great however you can login to OwnCloud installations using it. Is there a way to limit it to only NextCloud. Only reason I say this is because this app is free and OwnCloudâs android app isnât many get a few of their users downloading it.
That is fine. We are (or at least: Try to be) nice citizens and thus adding an incompatibility by intention is something we should not do.
If an ownCloud user decides to use the free Nextcloud Android app then that is all fine and awesome ![]()
@LukasReschke Literally a week before NextCloud was announced I bought the OwnCloud app, just a bit frustrating.
@wbargent the oC app is also freely available, but via the f-droid app store but not on Google Play and like @LukasReschke said we will try to stay compatible as long as it is technically possible
@Andy Well thatâs even more annoying now I know that.
What about the fdroid release? The beta version is already added (but apparently not yet built/signed).
But there is no metadata for the 1.0.0 stable release yet. Is anyone on this?
f-droid takes a while, @tobiasKaminsky is working on it:
beta: https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/merge_requests/1461
normal: https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/merge_requests/1464
on our tracker: https://github.com/nextcloud/android/issues/10
will it be possible to view photos on the app without saving it to the phone storage, kinda like on the webui.
Not yet, @tobiasKaminsky has implemented such a feature and it is afaik available in the beta but it is not present in the stable release on Google Play or f-droid and at the moment we havenât found the time to define a roadmap or being able to tell when a feature will be done and released.
The original implementation has been here: https://github.com/owncloud/android/pull/1599 and will now take place in the Nextcloud repository but as you can see from the issue/PR a proper implementation of this feature need a server change upfront.
Thanks! its really the ONLY issue i have with any of the owncloud/nextcloud software. i only use it for some friends/family but will be swapping from Owncloud -> Nextcloud very soon.

Keep up the good work, and thanks again!
Have developers any plans to sync contacts and calendar via mobile app on Android?
Imho itâs must have function for app, which work with cloud service, where i have not only files.
Hi @Yarra it has been requested and is being discussed: Desktop & Mobile Apps - #15 by jan and yes we would like to add such features but as of now we do not have a plan or roadmap as to when such features (or any others) might become available.
What I can say though is that Android app teamâs primary focus at this very moment is to integrate all the features and improvements that have already been implemented and partially tested but until now never made it into the ownCloud release. Just looking at the changes that would then be shipped but just looking at the ones done by Bartosz, Tobias and me we are already talking about more than 30 features/improvements. Some are rather small like properly displaying animated GIFs to larger ones like multi select and document providers (so you can open a pdf from within another app, not by opening it from within the Nextcloud app).
I said at this very moment simply to state that we are still in the early stages of the Nextcloud development and are doing a lot of housekeeping like
The later doesnât bring new features to anyone but will help us to scale in terms of development speed and capacity which would then in a second step also bring more features to the app itself.
I hope this helps clarifying some questions and issues and also give everyone a good overview of what is happening right now for the Android app.
âŠstay tuned ![]()
Thanks, i undertand.
Will wait
Hey just saw a tweet from @spreebox for nextcloud ios testflight invites⊠can we too get the invites⊠thanks!!
Send mail to ios@nextcloud.com
Thanks
You are doing awesome work
!
But Iâd like to add here. That doing contact/calendar sync is a complex beast. And there are already a shitload of apps out there. Maybe we could team up with davdroid or something? That way we get an awesome (opensource) solution be more awesome instead of duplicating work etc.
Totally agree with you @rullzer! Teaming up with davdroid would be best
If I get it right, this would make 3rd party Apps such as CardDAV and CalDAV sync obsolete, right? This would also include davdroid itself too. Correct? Does that at the end of the day then mean, that davdroid would need to become a part of nextcloud and will consequetively cease to exist as dedicated product?
Just wondering
