Desktop client crash - how to recover?

Since recently I have problems with my Nextcloud 3.1.3 app on Windows 10 Edition 2004 (all security updates installed). The app simply crashes and disappears (app windows close, systray icon disappear as soon as I hover it with my mouse) - typical signs for an app crash.

App is configured to sync to three Nextcloud servers (two productive (23 GB and 189 GB, one development (0 GB)).

If I’m fast enough I can pause sync and thus app keeps running - but if I start sync on one of my productive accounts (no matter which one, both have changes), I can watch the sync start and then after some time the app disappears.

I tried starting nextcloud.exe with –logwindow parameter, I can see the log, but it doesn’t help as the window disappears as the app crashes. Even though I checked permanently save logs I can’t find a file this log gets saved to - where is it?

Files in %appdata%/Nextcloud/*_sync.log only inform me about started sync, nothing more:

Nextcloud client on my notebook (same configuration, only two productive accounts and way less files synced) currently works without problems.

Where to continue looking for errors? How to recover?
Ideally without having to download 200 GB again, this takes some time…

Thanks in advance.

PS: To recover I tried installing Nextcloud 3.2.0-rc1, but it says that all servers are incompatible and I can only continue on my own responsibility, so I downgraded back to 3.1.3

No ideas how to proceed?

I think maybe some internal database or such could be corrupted - I had some blue screens before because of that shitty Windows Update that disabled some printers.

My recommendation would be to reinstall the Nextcloud desktop client…

Not sure my issue is the same or not. (sounds very similar) I use client on 2 pc’s (both win10) one at home, working fine, and other is Office. (where i actually need it) is not working. (also on 2 phones)
-office - I manually launch it, can see it pop into the task manager (on 2 or 3 of the tabs) but it instantly clears out. nothing pops up.
I was thinking a change in the default (windefender(off!) or winsecurity, but i have found nothing. was there a KB update for win that now blocks it, that hasnt hit my home pc ?? ive uninstalled and reinstalled the latest nc, but no change.

Any progress yet? Have you been able to find a solution? I am facing the exact same issue and couldn’t find a fix yet either.

Hi All,

I face the “same” issue, I know this sonds pretty lame, but here is what I have:
NC 21.0.4
Windows Client: 3.3.1
106GB data
win10 with all the latest updates (17.8.2021)
on lan, no NAT, 10G ethernet, all new SSD’s

The client actually runs, as long as I don’t make changes to the files… but as soon as I update files, the sync starts, but crashes at some point, without warining. I can restart the client, a few times, until the sync eventually completed. and then the client is ok. but this kind of defeats the porpuse.
I also have a laptop with win11 (yes beta win11), and I have the same configurations as on my desktop, and here it seams to run better.

as with previous comments, there is nothing useful in the log :frowning:
any help/idea would be welcome

I do see some of these errors:
Line 22225: 2021-08-17 22:45:50:657 [ info nextcloud.gui.activity ]: Activity/Notification/Error successfully dismissed: “Connection closed (skipped due to earlier error, trying again in 10 hour(s))”

but I have no clue if they are related, I’m more than happy to share the los with a developer or someone who knows what they mean

Hi All,

The issue is still present, although I’m now on win11 and have NC23 (on Ubunut) and the latest client (3.3.6 I think…)

I am having the same issue. One Laptop running Win11 works fine, other running Win10 does not. trying to sync the same Data. I broke down my sync’s into separate Folder Connections. All work except for My Documents. As soon as the sync starts, the client crashes.

only thing that shows up in the logs is:

I have been having this issue for a while, and unable to find a resolution. I have re-installed the app, reinstalled windows (keeping files), repaired windows, removed the NC folder in /user/AppData and reinstalled several times… all without luck.

I have had issues in the past with lightroom files that I have excluded and am able to continue. But in this case, I can’t even find the file/folder that may be causing issues.
