Best way to edit documents?

Hello, I’m transferring docs from Google Drive to NextCloud.
As a NextCloud noob, I notice opening a doc from the NextCloud app on the phone, there is no editing function.
What does the community suggest as Google Drive allows easy editing?
Perhaps something similar like cloud editing rather than downloading/uploading the NextCloud doc to the phone and using CollaboraOffice or Documents apps.

install NExtcloud office (collabora online) and you will get web based office suite to edit documents. Best and recommended way.

Does someone have a link please, as I don’t find NExtcloud office on the App Store and the NextCloud website appears to offer business products? I’m just a broke ass working class fool with little funds, coming from “free” Google drive.

You can test the demo server from Wolkesicher with Nextcloud Office included. Also you can register a free account at https://cloud.tab.digital with Nextcloud Office.

In you first screenshot is a wrong link. Use the link Sign up for a free Nextcloud account . There you can get a free account at https://cloud.tab.digital. Also you can get directly to https://cloud.tab.digital and get 8 GB for free.

Where is your Nextcloud hosted? If you host Nextcloud at home you can use a free internet Nextcloud account for testing first.

I’m using a free Oracle VPS. Home server not possible as Internet connection is the mobile phone hotspot, which leaves the property with me.

Demo server from WolkesicherHier geht es zur Cloud → error: Wrong login or password (using local Nextcloud credentials which work on my Nextcloud account?)

I logged in to cloud.tab.digital however I don’t see my Nextcloud files? My files are on my server, so I don’t need my files on a 3rd party server like Google Drive or other unknowns?

I am searching for having edit functions such as LibreWriter for my docs.
Work around 1: Download/upload Nextcloud files to Desktop or Mobile to edit.
Work around 2: Install some cloud editable software on my Nextcloud server (as opposed to a 3rd party server like Google Drive, cloud.tab.digital etc) if this is possible, I don’t know?
Still figuring out the Collabora thingy, but does work on my mobile, after cafuffling around with downloading/uploading the file from my Nextcloud server.

You need to install the following apps:

richdocuments

…and the actual document server for arm64, if your using an ARM Compute Instance:

richdocumentscode_arm64

…or the x64 one if you’re using an AMD Compute Instance:

richdocumentscode

However, according to Oracle’s website, the AMD instances only come with 1 GB of RAM, which is likely insufficient for Nextcloud Office.

Thx, so install the app on the Nextcloud server is my understanding.

I’m happy to pay a little for a better VPS, as long as it’s not exorbitant enterprise fees for a little individual like me.
Might need a new forum post, but any suggestions for a budget friendly VPS with specs satisfying richdocuments?

What kind of instance are using right now? If you use one of their ARM Ampere instances, at least in theory it should work.

Otherwise, I’ve had good experiences with Hetzner, but I recommend checking it out yourself to see if it fits your needs. You can open an account and start spinning up virtual machines right away. You’re only charged for the actual usage time. So if, for example, you set up a VPS and delete it after two hours, you’ll only be billed for those two hours.

For Nextcloud Office, I recommend at least 4 GB of RAM for light, occasional use with a few users. If you plan to use it more extensively or with multiple active users, I’d go with 8 GB.

You must click the link “Hier geht es zur Cloud” or here.

Server: https://nextcloud30.our-servers.de
User: admin, Password: demo123
User: user, Passwort: demo123

It is a free Nextcloud server in the internet with including Nextcloud Office. It is only the test of Nextcloud Office. You can delete the account with one click.

Upload a test file to one of the both Nextcloud servers and edit it in the web with Nextcloud Office / Collabora Online. Please use a PC and not a smartphone.

@bb77 My noob understanding with the new Oracle product is: Ampere A1 Compute instances using the VM.Standard.A1.Flex shape (equivalent to 4 OCPUs and 24 GB of memory)
@devnull thank you, however this seems to be a free test environment, whereas I need a permanent cloud editing solution.

Yes. You should see both as test systems. Maybe it didn’t come across properly before.

Ok. 4 cores and 24GB od RAM should be more than enough fpr Nextcloud Office. So, just try to install richdocuments and richdocumentscode_arm64 via the apps section in your admin account.

In the Nextcloud App Store (Web GUI) they are named Nextcloud Office and Collabora Online - Built-in CODE Server (ARM64). You can find them installed in the Demo from Wolkesicher see infos above. However, you can also run Nextcloud Office (Collabora Online) on a separate server. In the Nextcloud GUI Administration you can find the settings for Nextcloud Office and Built-in CODE Server.

You’re right, of course.

Ok, my Oracle VPS is ARM with OCPU 2 and Memory (GB) 12.
I understand Nextcloud has an app store and I could use either Nextcloud Office or Collabora (I prefer to support LibreOffice, whichever products that may be).
I’m unclear on how to install Nextcloud App Store apps, so I’ll research that.
I’m using Nextcloud on both a desktop Raspberry Pi 5 desktop and a phone.

You can try the above mentioned Nextcloud from Wolkesicher to install apps. The Nextcloud is reset every hour.

Nextcloud Office uses Collabora, so you need to install both.

The Nextcloud Office app is just a front end that integrates the Collabora server back end (the built-in CODE server) into Nextcloud.
