Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • This Nextcloud is on version 31.0.9
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • Asustor ADM
  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • replace me
  • Reverse proxy and version _(e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    • 1.24.0
  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
    • 8.3
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • Yes
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • Always
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • Asustor
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • no

Summary of the issue you are facing:

[I’m able to create directories, add users and share them out. I did a bunch of files/folders to test and now trying to clean them up but getting an error saying the directory/file can’t be deleted. ““Delete folder” failed on some elements”]

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Ensured that all shares are removed (unshared).

  2. Even wiped the two accounts I created.

  3. Rebooted Nextcloud - via Asustor App Central just stopped and started.

  4. Rebooted the entire Asustor.

  5. Instructions on the internet seem to indicate it could be a file locking issue but all of the corrective actions are for installations on things OTHER than Asustor and involve installing redis (or something else) and changing configuration files. Since I don’t have command line access, I don’t know where those files are nor where/how to install redis.

Log entries

Nextcloud

Please provide the log entries from your Nextcloud log that are generated during the time of problem (via the Copy raw option from Administration settings->Logging screen or from your nextcloud.log located in your data directory). Feel free to use a pastebin/gist service if necessary.

PASTE HERE

Web Browser

If the problem is related to the Web interface, open your browser inspector Console and Network tabs while refreshing (reloading) and reproducing the problem. Provide any relevant output/errors here that appear.

PASTE

Web server / Reverse Proxy

The output of your Apache/nginx/system log in /var/log/____:

Configuration

Nextcloud

The output of occ config:list system or similar is best, but, if not possible, the contents of your config.php file from /path/to/nextcloud is fine (make sure to remove any identifiable information!):

I have no idea how to get this as the installation isn't on a VM or any sort of metal but in the App Center of Asustor.

Apps

The output of occ app:list (if possible).

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response

  • Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
  • If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
    • If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
  • Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

Hello @ShosMeister,

welcome to the Nextcloud community! :handshake:

as you didn’t provided enough information to understand the problem and you seem to have no idea how to troubleshoot the application running as specific variant I would recommend you reach out to Asustor community/support for help to learn how access config, run commands and access logs on this specific system.

I recommend you review 101: Self-hosting information for beginners

Pardon me? What part of “I can’t delete a folder that was created” is not understandable?

And I have lots of ideas of how to troubleshoot except when it’s not accessible from the command line - all of your instructions require shell access which I don’t see available with the Asustor installation. So if you can tell me how to back-door into the shell, happy to do that.

If you want to give me a navigation path within the web UI to get the details you want, I can do that but it’s not obvious and none of your online instructions provide that - only command line.

Simple step: Create shared directory. Verify access from multiple accounts. Delete shared directory - failed.

And I did look at the Asustor community sites as well and there isn’t much there as it’s not their application.

Obviously running the application as Asustor “app” has some specifics and this what you need to find out from people who created this app - it has nothing to do with Nextcloud application. I’m sorry but the fact you can not troubleshoot the application is out of scope of this forum. Once you manage to access logs and config return back and post them.

I didn’t realize that Asus took your source and recompiled it to make their own app. I’m pretty sure it’s your image/container just running on their hardware and in their instance of docker. Problem is I can’t get to Docker or a shell to run the commands.

And if there’s no way to access the logs from within the interface of the app, maybe from the database??

The only thing I can do from the web is one item at a time - unless you can provide a method to dump the entire log.

I’m wondering if it’s a file locking issue somehow. You have instructions to change the file locking mechanism but it’s all command line :frowning:

And I am still asking on the Asustor forums too but most people there don’t have any detailed information about the app.
