Android Auto-Upload Stopped Working

I’ve had my nextcloudpi up-and-running for quite a while, and the auto-upload from my phone’s camera folder was working great up until just a few days ago, when it all-of-a-sudden stopped working.

I noticed my nextcloud version was slightly old (29.0.14), but not old enough where it should’ve caused any issues.
Regardless, I went ahead and updated my server to the latest version - now running 31.0.6.2.

I’m also running the latest version of nextcloudpi (v1.55.4).

Finally, I’m running the latest version of the Android Nexcloud app from the Google Playstore (v3.32.0).

Even with everything up-to-date, for some reason, the app seems to be unable to ā€˜locate’ files in my camera folder (/storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera)

It can still detect them, however, because it notices whenever there’s a new one and attempts to upload it, but fails every time - with the error: ā€œLocal file not foundā€
I’ve attached a screenshot of my Uploads…

This happens for both photos and videos.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Just checked my and seems have the same problem. Funny if I ā€œshareā€ those files from the gallery - they will be uploaded. But automatic upload though an error.

The solution has been found in the german post about the same bug.

You have to give Nextcloud access to ā€œAll file accessā€

The easiest way is to go to your Settings and search ā€œAll file accessā€ and look for Nextcloud and check the toggle.

Otherwise you can Navigate via: Settings->Apps->(3 dot menu on top)->Special Access->All files access

Hello @tobika
Thank you for your response!!
Granting the app ā€˜All Files Access’ as you suggested does fix my issue - I’ll mark this as resolved :slightly_smiling_face:

Out of curiousity, does anyone know why this level of access is required? Up until just a few days ago, access to Photos and Videos was sufficient for it to work.
It seems unnecessary/excessive to grant All Files Access to the app.

Thanks!

please use search this topic was frequently discussed in the forum.

Hello @wwe ,
Thank you for your suggestion.

I’ve tried using search, but so far haven’t been able to find any relevant posts explaining why this level of access is necessary.

I’ll keep searching though…if I find something, I’ll reply to my post with the relevant information.

Thanks!

Hi. I’ve had the same problem, and allowing access to all files has resolved the issue going forward but has left the last few days unsynced. Is there a way to tell Nextcloud to have another go?

Thanks!

Actually, the solution has not been found. I have Nextcloud Android version 3.32.0 on three devices: Asus Zenfone 8, Samsung Galaxy 10e, and Google Pixel 8. All of them have the ā€œAll file accessā€ setting allowed. No one uploads camera files any longer. This feature worked flawlessly on all three devices until recently.

So once one enables this All files access, how does one get an Auto-upload folder to re-process so that it actually uploads the files in it?

Can confirm. A reinstall was needed to make it start running properly again.

Same here, had to remove App and re-install. The installer asks the question about all files access.

No, at least at my case that’s not the solution because of I already did all the access and the files aren’t yet synced, plus, If I try to upload any file, anyway the file won’t be uploaded due to the exact same error with the same issue message.

Reinstall the app and it will grant the right permissions.

Thank you kindly. That fixed this same issue for me as well. First test photo uploaded automatically immediate after granting the Nextcloud client on my phone this access.

No idea why, but it seemed to be working up until June of this year and then stopped.
