I have android app. I have battery optimization turned off for that app. But upload still stalls about minute or 2 after I lock screen. Is there any fix to that I tried to increase screen timeout from settings to 10 minutes but now when doing initial data upload to new server I still have to go and check every 10 minutes just to keep screen on. I have NC 3.30.7 on Android 7.
I wonder why haven’t you added option on application settings to keep screen on until uploads are done? That would have been helpful during initial upload.
Ultimately, however, it’s probably time to update to a supported version of Android and a current version of the Nextcloud app. And yes, I know this will most likely mean buying a new device.
If you are talking about the auto-upload feature, there were problems with permissions that Google did not grant. But that has been fixed and at the moment it works for me.
Regardless of this, you need a new device because your device doesn’t receive any security updates anymore. Also, eventually more and more apps will cause problems or stop working at all because they will no longer be compatible.
And no, you can’t send the bill for the new device to Nextcloud, regardless of whether it works the way you expect it to or not
It shouldn’t affect you regardless, because the specific issue with Google has since been resolved, and as far as I know, it didn’t even exist yet on Android 7.0 or in the version of the app you’re using.
However, since you’re running an outdated version of Android along with an older app version, there may be a completely different issue at play, possibly due to compatibility between the app and your Android version, or even the specific implementation of Android on your device, or due to a bug in that specific older version of the app your using.
Troubleshooting this issue will be difficult as it is unlikely that many users (or devs, for that matter) still have Android 7.0 or that particular older version of the app, making it hard to replicate the problem.
I’d recommend using one of the workarounds I mentioned here or in the other threads, such as using the ‘Keep Screen On’ app or copying the files to your computer and uploading them from there, to get your data off the device. After that, you might want to consider switching to a newer device with a supported Android version that works with the latest version of the app.
What I can confirm is that auto-upload works just fine on both my phone (Google Pixel 7 / Android 16 / latest F-Droid version) and my girlfriend’s phone (Pixel 6 / Android 16 / latest Play Store version).
