I’m currently working on continuing NCDownloader under the new name “Net Loader”, because the project has not really been maintained for quite a while, even though the core idea is still very useful: downloading files directly from the web into your own Nextcloud.
Over the last 38 commits, I mainly focused on getting the app back into a usable state, both technically and visually.
Changelog / work done so far
- fixed various bugs that affected everyday use or caused issues on newer Nextcloud setups
- updated outdated dependencies and npm packages
- improved compatibility with newer PHP versions, including adjustments for PHP 8.4
- modernized older and problematic parts of the codebase
- adapted the app for more current Nextcloud environments so it runs more cleanly again
- resolved several compatibility issues with newer server and app setups
- refreshed the design so the interface feels more like a native Nextcloud app
- aligned the UI more closely with the current Nextcloud look and feel
- added smaller improvements to usability, structure, and presentation
- laid the groundwork to continue the project under the new name Net Loader
Why “Net Loader”?
Because the name describes the purpose much better: loading content directly from the internet into your cloud. That is exactly the feature I want to bring back.
My goal is not to reinvent the whole project. I want to keep the original idea alive, modernize it, maintain it properly, and maybe turn it into an official Nextcloud app under the new name in the long run.
So if anyone wants to help — with testing, feedback, packaging, app-store requirements, or code contributions — I’d really appreciate it. I’m especially interested in advice on how to properly transform this fork into an official Nextcloud app as “Net Loader.”
Best regards
Lars
