Windows client sync issues with VFS - some folders not working - NC client 33.0.x and 34.0.3

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):

  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • Win11 25H2 Build 26200.9457
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • No
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • We are activating/installing NC Client with an existing User (and files) on a Windows Workstation, inital Sync (VFS) is working but some time afterwards files and folders go missing or Windows errors out when traversing specific folders.
      Files are there on the server and intact.
      Only fix is to delete the hidden database file on the client to re-trigger the complete sync.
      We have also downgraded the client to 4.0.8 since we did not see the behavior there.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. have existing user

  2. install NC Client 33.0.x or 34.0.3

  3. Start sync with VFS enabled

  4. Sync completes

  5. After X amount of time, some folders are broken and some files go missing - i.e. folder Novigrad
