what is it with Nextcloud updates?

I’m using Nextcloud for several years now. Every time there is an update I have to manually repair databases, have to run correcting scripts with occ or have to adapt a perfectly good running config file again to match the new installation.

If there are updates, please include repair indices etc, in your update.

And why is there one installation running fine with .htaccess, the next time I have to adapt it and a little time later (year or so) you have to move back to a configuration you had before that was running perfectly fine the first time?

Is it so hard to make updates consistent without any errors thereafter? This is getting a nightmare using Nextcloud because this costs so much time to fix it. In all the time I have had just 3 updates that went without any issues the rest of the more than 15 updates cost me hours to fix.

Please, please, please, if you can fix these issues after any update/upgrade that would make Nextcloud a terrific product. But shortly after any update the forums are full of complains of new errors in the overview, which, most of them, could be avoided by just include simple maintenance tasks.

Please consider this positive criticism as something you can do about.

Many thanks for your understanding and consideration.

I have been using the software since day one.

The golden rule is:

  • Read the prerequisites before you do the update
  • Do not update to version X.0.0 but wait for at least X.0.1 or better X.0.2.
  • Deactivate unsupported apps before the update
  • Go to the administration settings after the update and follow the instructions

That’s all.
