Summary of the issue you are facing:
I want to access data on a foreign instance (shared by link) using more convenient UI/UX.
To be explicit: Out partner has a NC instance (A) that is used to share data with us (and other partners). To do this, a public share is generated and distributed by mail between the partners. We do not have control over the instance A, thus we cannot say much about it at all.
However, we are running a small instance (B) as well that could be used here. It is behind a firewall and can reach the public www but it is not reachable from within the www. We have seen the federation option and wanted to import the share from A to B. However, this seems to require a connection from A to B as far as I understand.
Can the conncection be made in the reverse direction (from B to A)? Can it be somehow solved my means of external storage (app)?
Our final goal:
- Get notifications upon data changes
- Usage of NC sync client to have local copy of all (relevant) files in the share
- Easy data handling without the manual download-modify-upload cycle

Please provide the log entries from your Nextcloud log that are generated during the time of problem (via the Copy raw option from Administration settings->Logging screen or from your nextcloud.log
located in your data directory). Feel free to use a pastebin/gist service if necessary.
Nothing was logged in instance B. Logs of instance A are not available.
Web Browser
If the problem is related to the Web interface, open your browser inspector Console and Network tabs while refreshing (reloading) and reproducing the problem. Provide any relevant output/errors here that appear.
The problem is the backend communication. No Frontend issue.
