User files folder size abnormality

Hello,

I have been using the Nextcloud 12.0.3 on a Raspi 2 config with an external usb hdd for syncing files between my computers. I have 1 user, and total synced file size is about 1.6TB, however the files folder under the user in the hdd measures about 3.4TB. I believe the deleted files and currently uploading files are stored in a separate folder, therefore it cannot be related to them.
What is the reason for this size difference? As I am getting close to the hdd size limitation, I would like to resolve this issue if possible.

Trash bin and versioning. Normally you can control the default behaviour via your config-file:

I have changed the trash bin and versioning in the config file and this seems to solve my problem. Thanks!!!
