Updates getting increasingly flakey

Last few updates of apps I’ve done have not been smooth. From not exiting maintenance mode to unknown errors - just been a pain.

Just updated some apps and now the existing entries in the database have been deleted. I’ve had to reinstall most of the apps I’ve been using, cope with them error-ring and figure out how to fix them. Now my data is gone - I can recover it from backups but I bet the database stuctures won’t be compatible and so on.

I like Nextcloud and have been using it for a long time now - since Owncloud. But I cannot afford to spend half a day every time it needs updating and then another half day recovering data.

I’m sorry to hear you hit issues - but what is the point of your post? why do you think people should spend time reading pointless complains without even a line of logs? If you need support post details. moving to :label: General > rant

Hi Don,

indeed losing data while updating is the worst-case scenario and should not happen. As mentioned by wwe, with your given information there’s not much we can do here.

existing entries in the database

There are migrations occasionally to change the data structure, but that should not remove data. Do you remember what apps were affected and what information was lost?

It’s hard to for a decentralized platform to remain consistent. Backup backup backup. I learnt the hard way recently too.

Now I snapshot and backup configs and databases separately.

Even if the software works perfectly, there can be hardware errors that require good backups.

We don’t know which apps you are using.
