It’s a problem caused by very bad download speed. Using wget it shows a Downlaod speed of poor 150KB/s. So the download timed out by using the graphical update tool.
If you have patience jsut use wget to download it and put the zip-File in place and start the updaten again
Also for me. And it is always the same in close to all the latest updates. Incredible in 2025 watching 255MB package downloading even at 64kbps! At today updates vary by luck. In one server i tried 3 times and finally i got it…in another i’m still stucking on that damned zip. file. Guess i will give up! I can’t stress every time for this. And i do not understand how come you can’t manage a decent hosting service. 100% disappointing. No way
You need to download the ZIP once by using wget. You can place the ZIP afterward into the /var/nextcloud_data/updater-ocxxxxxxx Folder of the servers. The updater will notice the ZIP is in place and do not download it again
It means that the app hasn’t been tested against the latest version and will be disabled. You need to wait until a support app version is provided or you can try to enable it again in the apps configuration section, on your own risk.
Before pressing the “update” button, you should always check if all of the used apps are supported. If not, it might be better to wait with the update until a new app version has been released.
This worked for me only once in one of the previous versions, in other cases updater for some reason deletes the already downloaded file and starts downloading it again, which again ends in a timeout.
It does not work. After slowly manually downloaded the zip file and moved over the correct location, the updater started trying to download again it. I also tried with sudo -u www-data php /var/www/nextcloud/updater/updater.phar and it’s the same (it restart downloading the update). Only now i was able doing it again using updater.phar. Probably download speed now is faster and the update went well this time.
All issues described here in the thread are caused by the insane low download speed.
@ Nextcloud team: what is the reason for that speed? It renders your updater useless, so I recommend to do some basic math: What is the required minimum download speed that he updater is not failing? Regard that speed as mission critical and take measures to guarantee this speed.
