Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • 33.0.0
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • latest nextcloud docker image hosted on Raspian / Debian 11.11
  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • Whatever is in the latest nextcloud image
  • Reverse proxy and version _(e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    • Apache
  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
    • Whatever is in the latest nextcloud image
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • Yes, first attempt to try this
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • today
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • Self-written docker-compose based on official docs
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • no

Summary of the issue you are facing:

I’ve just upgraded my nc instance from 31 to 32 to 33, although I haven’t tried sharing before.

I cannot share external storage - I’m not given any options to. I think I’ve set everything up already but would appreciate confirmation. I’ve got some technical (but not nc-specific) knowledge so if you need me to go grubbing around in the database for example that should be fine - thank you in advance for any help.

I am given the the option to share internally stored files - haven’t tested actually sharing but I’d assume it would work.

Here is my configuration - /software is mounted as a docker volume and all the files within it are world-readable. It’s mounted ro in my docker-compose file. I’ve confirmed I can browse and read the files within using the Nextcloud UI.

Here are my sharing settings

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Go to the files area and click on details

I think this might be a bug. I tried disabling sharing (prior to re-enabling it) for this mount and it didn’t take the update (it did ask for my admin password to confirm). I tried a couple more times and it did eventually disable, but now I can’t re-enable it.

I’m going to poke around with occ later to see if I can enable it from the command line.

Yeah, it’s a bug. See below - sharing enabled

Yet the UI says sharing is OFF

backend says it’s ON
