Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

When adding Remote external local or smb USB HDD from within the admin account, I receive " Confirm your password”
"This action requires authentication”

I have tried all passwords that I have set whilst installing Nextcloud with no results ie Nextcloud admin
Nextcloud user
samba password
MySQL root password

all fail authentication

Please can anyone offer any advice….

Thanks

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

  4. set Folder Name
  5. set external storage type smb/cifs
  6. set Hostname
  7. set samba share name
  8. set remote folder
  9. set samba username and password
  10. Tick available to all people
  11. click on save

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response

  • Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
  • If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
    • If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
  • Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

Sounds like Add external storage failed at "action needs authentication failed - wrong password"

Even the admin password will not satisfy the
Request.I am using the correct admin password as I can log back in as admin after logging out.I guess it is the admin password that is required here?

Same problem here…

I have given some thought to what could be the reason… One thing is certain, the error has not been occurring for long. Why not with everything?.. I have activated “totp”… that could cause a problem. And indeed, after deactivating with “sudo -u www-data php occ twofactorauth:disable admin totp” the password was accepted!

Thanks very much Lutz.I will try the fix you suggested and let you know😀
