TrueNAS Scale Nextcloud Update Caused Issues

Hi all,

Firstly I just want to say this is my first support post and I’m still only a few months into setting up my first TrueNAS server running Nextcloud so I apologise in advance my support query is likely a user error.

I’ve been running Nextcloud successfully for the last 3-4 months with no issues, it’s been great but yesterday I decided to move my server from my spare room to the garage. After moving it I thought I would just login to the TrueNAS Scale webui to run some updates. I updated Nextcloud from 2.0.9 from the TRUENAS catalog to 2.0.18. After waiting for TrueNAS to do it’s thing and wait for the app to be ‘Running’ again I tried opening the Nextcloud webui to find a message which I can’t seem to get past:

Update needed
Please use the command line updater because updating via browser is disabled in your config.php.

Within the TrueNAS webui it appears to be running the latest version, all updates have been installed correctly but whenever I true to access Nextcloud whether it’s through a browser or the iPhone app, I just get this same message. I’ve also tried rolling back to 2.0.9 but if I try that it will get stuck in ‘Deploying’. I’ve since then tried to update again to 2.0.18 but then I get the same message once it’s updated and running.

Any guidance on how to resolve this would be great. Thanks in advance!
Matt

hey @mrbowstick and welcome to the wonderful world of the NC-(home)user-communityforum.

I personally don’t run TrueNAS. But I’m sure you have a kind of bash there.
so you might wanna look up this one here Upgrade manually — Nextcloud latest Administration Manual latest documentation

I don’t know why the GUI-updater is disabled with your server, could be b/c of the TrueNAS-tool doing the setup. so be careful by turning it on again

same issue. Were you able to figure out a fix?

the solution here worked: Can't access Nextcloud after update: Update needed Please use the command line updater because updating via browser is disabled in your config.php - #2 by Devallex

in TrueNAS went to shell and just followed the steps. Make sure you get the right container ID
