I recently updated the Nextcloud Android app to version 3.30.0 (.APK file from GitHub) and was super excited to try out the new 2-way sync feature. However, I’m a bit unsure if I’m using it correctly, so I wanted to clarify a few things.
My main use case is syncing a folder to my tablet and using that synced folder as the input folder for note-taking apps like Obsidian or Logseq. I selected the folder with the new Sync checkbox, and in Obsidian, I pointed it to the folder in Android/media/com.nextcloud.client/..., where it should be syncing to.
The issue I’m running into is that if I update a note, the changes seem to get discarded. Also, any new notes or folders I create aren’t being recognized by the Nextcloud app.
Is this a bug, or is this how the feature is supposed to work? I was under the impression that only external folders (outside of the Nextcloud app’s data directory, i.e. Android/media/com.nextcloud.client/...) wouldn’t sync properly.
Logs are available to the admin user. Check the top right of the screen after logging in and there will be an admin panel, which includes access to the logs: warnings, errors, etc.
do you actually need the logs from the web interface/server? I thought that was separate from the mobile app, so I’m a bit confused—sorry about that.
Also, there’s nothing in the server logs. No errors/warnings/… during the period I tested the new feature.
What I have noticed is that when I open the details menu for the source folder and manually click “Sync,” it starts the sync process but ends up discarding any changed content. Same with the automatic background Sync. However, if I only sync individual files directly, it works as expected.
That said, new files created outside the Nextcloud app still aren’t being recognized.
