I’m sorry, but both “solutions” (downgrading to v19 or sharing files by public link) are no solutions. Maybe you can use the last mentioned “solution” (sharing files by public link) in rare circumstances… but downgrading to an unsupported version with security issues is no option at all.
For all who might come across this post: right now, it seems to be a man-made bug which was introduced with this Github change: merge file activity settings into a single 'favorite changed' item by icewind1991 · Pull Request #22205 · nextcloud/server · GitHub
Don’t ask me why

I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04, Nginx, PHP 7.4, & Nextcloud 21.01. Everything is working fine except I’m not getting any activity emails at all. I setup the cron job for every five minutes and I watch it run without error in the syslog, but nothing happens. I get every test email that I send and use email 2fa that works perfectly. Is there anywhere I can look to get more info on why this is happening?
Hi,
we are currently facing an interesting issue. Our NC-server does not send any emails on file changes etc. anymore. Basically what could be set in the settings here:

Also the checkbox at “send activity emails” can not be checked. On page reload it is simply unchecked again. With that, the option for users to choose the hourly, daily, weekly or “as soon as possible” report is gone as well. We think this might be the root cause for not getting emails any longer.
Seeing this on two …
