Teams - NC 30.0.0 -

2024-10-14T22:00:00Z

Hello,
I work with NC 3.0.0 on my own server
I have activated Collectives and wanted to work with it, but I get the message that Circles is missing. Circles itself has been replaced by Teams as far as I know. However, the Teams app says that it was last updated 3 years ago.
Then I read that I apparently no longer need the Teams app, as Teams has been directly integrated into Nextcloud since Nextcloud version 29, but where and how do I activate it? Who can help me and provide a coherent explanation?
I would like your support, thanks in advance
Regards, Holger

If you look at the links relating to the Teams app (Homepage), they simply refer to the Circles app. And according to the AppStore, this is hopelessly outdated. Although this probably only applies to some external app. Or maybe not.

Instead of investing a lot of money in presentations and new apps like Teams, Nextcloud GmbH should perhaps simply tidy up the AppStore and at least explain to users what Teams really is. It’s apparently a new version of Circles. Apparently they didn’t even bother to copy Circle completely.

Not sure why this thread is now needed? APP Teams 3 Jahre kein Update? hieß ja mal Circles - NC 3.0.0 - #4 by bb77

As far as I know, it’s the same app or a continuation of it, and internally it’s still named circles, just like Talk is still named spreed internally. What has changed is that Teams (Circles) is no longer a separate app, but has been integrated into the core.

However, the old name should of course no longer appear in the frontend/webUI, so the developers of Collectives should change their error message.

That’s how it is for me with Nextcloud 30:

  • Teams is in my app list by default and is activated
  • Circles is not installed, the untested version 1.8.2 would be offered
  • I have “cloud/apps/circles” in the folder, which is probably Teams
  • the Teams app works without exta Circles
  • the Teams app works for me with e.g. Contacts
  • no idea why the app is not simply called Teams everywhere.
  • no idea why circles is not removed from the AppStore

I think you must deactivate and uninstall Collectives and activate Nextcloud Teams in your app list. Hopefully your action didn’t break the /apps/circles folder.

Sorry, should have been more clear  I get that it’s confusing and I agree it could be improved. I was just referring to the OP creating the same topic in English and german.

No, Collectives is still a separate app, but it relies on Teams (formerly Circles) as a dependency. So he needs to enable both apps, Collectives and Teams.

Sorry. I meant Circles, of course. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

OK, if Teams is not a separate app, how can I get it activated and appear in the contact app as Teams? At the moment, I can activate the still separate Teams app (it says no update for 3 years) and it will be visible as a button in the left column under contacts. I just thought that it couldn’t work properly if there hadn’t been an update for 3 years?

The 3 years in the description is a mistake, and is probably somehow pulled in from the old Circles app in the App Store, because the new app is still called Circles internally.

And yeah technically it’s still a separte app, but it is now part of the core, and doesn’t have to be downloaded from the App store anymore.

TL;DR:

The app in your screenshot is the correct app, and it is up to date. So just click ‘Aktivieren’ and everything will be fine
