Talk notifications suddenly stopped working

I use Nextcloud Talk to message with a friend overseas, suddenly the notifications have simultaneously stopped working for both of us, one uses Android and the other iOS. Notifications were absolutely fine until today, been using it for many months.

I’ve tried searching in the forum but couldn’t find any problem similar to this.

I hadn’t made any alterations to settings or any updates when this happened.

Can anyone offer any ideas? I’m using Nextcloud on a shared hosting site.

You might want to check your logs for something like this:

cURL error 60: SSL certificate problem: certificate has expired (see https://curl.haxx.se/libcurl/c/libcurl-errors.html) for https://push-notifications.nextcloud.com/notifications\

Thank you! That is exactly what I have in the log, but I have no idea what to do next.

Is this related to the certificate used by Nextcloud themselves, as it gives a nextcloud.com address at the end of the error?

Basically you (or more likely your shared hoster) needs to make sure that a recent OpenSSL version is used and that the X1 cert is trusted. The linked letsencrypt post has some details on it.
So this not a problem with the certificate of nextcloud.

I’m just on a cheap shared hosting plan, so I am guessing I need to contact the hosting provider?

For anyone following this thread, I contacted hosting provider and they confirmed problem was just as @SysKeeper suggested. They reset my instance which automatically applied patches for the Letsencrypt issue, and so far so good.

One weird thing though: when I logged into my account using my username, it logged me into my friend’s account! We had to delete accounts and start new ones. (This didn’t affect admin account as I don’t use that for chatting.)
