Syncing file folders under Linux Fedora with Nextcloud desktop app: Folder blocked

I would like to sync folders on my Fedora notebook with my Nextcloud using the Nextcloud desktop app, which is actually very easy and works well. However, I encounter an issue. I had the nextcloud app installed quite some time ago and started syncing my local documents folder. Then I deleted the desktop app and reinstalled it after some time. Now, when I want to start synchronization of that folder again and I click on entering a folder synchronization and select the documents folder, the app tells me that this folder is already used as a synchronization folder and that I should select different folder. But actually its not being used so my best guess is that this folder is somehow “flagged” as a sync folder by the previous desktop app installation and can thus not be used. Any idea how I can get this solved? Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

bar using Fedora and/or Nextcloud client, this is a hunch;
check inside that folder if there’s a hidden file with a period (.*) use ls -al and delete that file… then select it again for syncing.
