Updates tucks in step 6, restored a webseite version from 5 days ago, tried to update, but still tells me upgrade in progress step 6. At the time 2023-10-22 of the back no upgrade was startet

The are some posts to the same problem online. I read all and tried the solutions, mostly the same, but no success.
Still wonder where nextcloud store information aber updateing and beeing stuck in step 6 even I restore an 5 days old backup. I did’nt start an update at that time

I had a very similar problem upgrading to 27.1.2 a couple of days ago. I had a nightmare few hours sorting it out

You can clear the flag by deleting /data/nextcloud/data/updater-ocwi4zmd2n8c/.step (a hidden file) and trying to the run the update again. That updater-ocwi4zmd2n8c folder might vary by installation.

I resorted to running the update manually which I think I’ll always do in future as it doesn’t suffer from timeouts, e.g. the backup step.

You’ll have to change nginx to the user running your webserver and the data/nextcloud path.

However, update.phar crashed out every time when unarchiving - problem with version.php file from memory. I ended up with a totally broken system.

In the end, I downloaded the exact old version ZIP and unzipping into the nextcloud folder as all the source files had been deleted. I think mine crashed trying to move the new version. As I said, a nightmare. I didn’t bother trying to upgrade again as it was already 2am!

However, I have arranged downtime this evening to try the upgrade again and suspiciously 27.1.3 has been released since I tried two days ago…

This version upgraded fine so I suspect there was a fault with 27.1.2 archive.

My mistake the first time was not taking a backup of the VM - only takes 7 minutes on Azure so I face the prospect of restoring from the previous night which would loose all the days changes plus there are other apps running on the VM. I suspect we’ve all had nights like that!

Great, tip ist perfect and help me a lot. Deleted the .step file and tried update to 27.1.3 again. Ran absolut smooth and I am at 27.1.3 now .
