Spotify Premium APK v9.0.74.823 not opening after download on Android 14?

Hi everyone :waving_hand:,

I ran into something weird today and wanted to check if anyone else using the Android client has seen this.

I’m currently on Android 14 (Pixel 7), and after downloading Spotify Premium APK v9.0.74.823, the app installs fine but just refuses to open. No crash report, no logs in the logcat, and nothing in the Nextcloud sync folder either. It’s as if the app gets blocked silently. I’ve double-checked my settings: install from unknown sources is enabled, battery optimization is off, and I even reinstalled it from scratch.

I’ve seen some people mention it could be related to scoped storage changes in Android 14 or some new Play Protect silent enforcement. I don’t think this is a Nextcloud bug per se, but I do use Nextcloud as my personal APK sync tool between devices, so I’m wondering:

:red_question_mark: Could Nextcloud’s Android file handling permissions or sandboxing interfere with sideloaded APKs behaving oddly?

Would love if someone who’s handled similar issues (maybe with F-Droid or custom builds) could shed some light. :folded_hands:

Thanks in advance! If I find a workaround or stable mirror for this version, I’ll drop it here later for those interested.

:white_check_mark: Update: I found a clean and stable source that worked perfectly on both Android 13 and 14 (tested). For anyone needing it:

I’ve hit similar issues with sideloaded apps on Android 14. Sometimes tweaking the APK with an editor like MT Manager or APKTool helps since you can adjust permissions or rebuild it for better compatibility. Might be worth a try

I fail to understand what a Spotify “piracy” APK is supposed to have to do with Nextcloud.

Did I miss something, or does the post actually say that the Nextcloud client stopped working after installing this app? And even if that were the case, I don’t see what could be done about it, since it doesn’t seem reasonable to expect the Nextcloud devs to download “dubious” APKs onto their devices just to test whether they might interfere with the Nextcloud app.

To be honest, this post looks like AI-generated spam to advertise that unofficial Spotify APK.
