If you’re using Nextcloud in a business/critical setting, paid and SLA-based support services can be accessed via portal.nextcloud.com where Nextcloud engineers can help ensure your business keeps running smoothly.
Getting help
In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.
Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:
- Official documentation (searchable and regularly updated)
- How to topics and FAQs
- Forum search
(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).
Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.
The Basics

Summary of the issue you are facing:
A shared folder (I have home server with a few accounts) in my user’s files which I share with my wife was suddenly empty. We rarely use this, so it wasn’t immediately obvious when this has happened, but we both have used it this year.
I have regular backups of the /var/nextcloud-data folder holding the data, but the folder isn’t where I expect it to be (in my files/), and has not been there for years if I look back in the backups.
So I’m guessing the groupfolders may be stored elsewhere? Where would I have to look for the files in my backups?
The funny thing is, when I look in my trash, there are some files that were deleted there, but when I restore them from the trash, they don’t appear back in the folder that is now under “Team Folders”.
Is this a bug which is hiding my files somewhere, or did they really disappear?
My main question is, can I retrieve the data from my backups somehow or better, is there something to make the files appear again?
