Restore possible with database and config from one date and data from another

Hi,

we screwed our Nextcloud server by making a to big version change at our last update. Our last backup is 2 month old and consists only of the config and the database. Due to the data being held on a mounted storage we did not think It would be necessary to backup them too.

Now we want to restore the Nextcloud and are not sure if that is even possible when the database and the config are 2 month old and the data is from 3 days ago. Could you give me an advice if restoring in this constellation is possible at all and what to expect to happen during the restore of this inconsistent backup parts.

Thanks for your advice in advance!

Hi,

After the restore run an occ files:cleanup and files:scan and that should do the trick.

Database contains information like:

  • passwords
  • shares
  • CalDAV (calendar) data
  • data stored by your various installed apps
  • filecache

The occ files:* commands mentioned by @Simon_Meyer can bring your filecache in the restored old database snapshot up-to-date with the on-disk data (files), but any other changes to anything listed above that took place after your last database backup will be gone.

Depending on what you mean here precisely, it might be more productive to move forward with the new version since it’ll at least have your up-to-date database. But I suppose that depends on what problems you’re encountering with the version change.
