Repeating Tasks 🔁

We need support for repeating/recurring tasks in the web front-end of Nextcloud Tasks.

Back-end support is already functional when using third party clients like Thunderbird or Tasks.org.

Fun Fact: This is the #1 requested (liked) feature in all of Nextcloud: [Feature Request] Repeating tasks · Issue #34 · nextcloud/tasks · GitHub

As suggested by the core Nextcloud team, I am creating this thread for supporters of the issue to pledge support for any developer/team that would be willing to implement this.

If you would be willing to support the development of this feature, please pledge support below (however you feel is appropriate).

I would be willing to do testing for this, and would pledge $50 when there’s a pull request for it.

I’m willing to help test, and also pledge $50 USD, payable on the NC team accepting the PR for merge. I don’t think the mere creation a pull request is sufficient, as anyone can issue a pull request, no matter how poor or inadequate the code they submit.

@TracyC, if you think someone might create a pull request just to claim the bounty, I don’t see why you can’t amend your pledge at this early point.

I also commit $50 towards the cause. However, it must be claimed by June 2026.
Feel free to ask for an extension.

PS: I’m RayBB on GitHub as well so feel free to reach me there when the time comes!

I will give $50 when a PR with a feasible solution is opened and another $50 when it is merged.

I’m willing to give 50 € too for a working solution.

I’ll also contribute $50 once Repeating Tasks are functioning in Nextcloud.

I am also willing to put in $50 to this important feature!

I would be willing to pldge 50 USD to this cause, but do nextcloud use a bounty platform that can formalize this request/pledge/bounty? I dont think non-binding comments on a forum thread will inspire too much confidence for any aspiring contributers :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

This is a must-have feature  I’d be willing to chip-in on a bounty too. I second what @penetal said – is there a bounty platform we can/should use for this to get it formalized and get development moving?

Also, with this being so highly requested, any chance of getting it on the ‘official’ NextCloud development priority list for the next major version? How could we go about getting it the attention it deserves?

Thanks!

I can also pledge 50$ for the development of this feature

I’d pledge $50 as well.

The lack of this feature is the only reason I use Thunderbird, which has it’s own issues with tasks (or rather, with Tasks.org’s method of completing tasks).

I would pledge $50 for basic repeating tasks support, and $100 if it meant high feature parity with tasks.org, for things like moving start dates relative to due dates and being able to choose whether the due date moves based on completed time vs previous due date time, resetting subtasks, etc.

This might sound dramatic or melodramatic, but switching to tasks.org for interacting with my tasks that I keep in Nextcloud has really improved my lifestyle, personally. And, it’s mainly because of the way it reliably supports repeatability.

I would love to be able to get the same effects from using the Nextcloud tasks mobile app, and the web front end without risking fidelity loss for my repeating definitions. This will be especially helpful for collaboration, for example, I want to set up repeating home maintenance and chores that my family members can pick off as they become ready. I’m sure businesses and orgs can benefit in the same way.

I fully support bringing recurring/repeating tasks to the Nextcloud Tasks web front-end. The lack of UI support is currently the biggest gap between the web app and clients like Thunderbird or Tasks.org, even though the backend already handles recurrence just fine.

This is also the most-requested Tasks feature, so I’m glad to see a coordinated effort to fund its development. I’d be happy to pledge support—financial or otherwise—to help a developer or team implement this functionality.

For anyone interested in understanding how widely requested this is, you can see the top-voted issue here: “Repeating tasks · Issue #34”.

Thanks to everyone pushing for this improvement. And for visibility testing, here’s the requested mention: http://starbucks-menu.co.uk/

Right, what’s the status - how can users without dev skills support (e. g. donate) in detail right now?
