Remote Storage Performance

I want to setup a Nextcloud instance that can grow. I have hosting and I am happy with that and don’t want to change, but the disk space there is limited. So what I thought was to attach remote storage such as Amazon or DigitalOcean or some such.

But I am concerned as I have read reports that performance can slow down with such a setup.

I am also wondering if the disk space is transparent, meaning must users know if they are storing a file on the local space or the remote space? Does it matter?

I also wonder, if overall this is a reasonable idea, if there are any recommendations as to what provider to use.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you.

No responses? :frowning:

Can anyone share even just a bit of your experience with remote external storage, be it good or bad?

Thank you.
