Remote backups in Nextcloud Hub 10

I have no support/technical question and have seen the support category. (Be aware that direct support questions will be deleted.)

Which general topic do you have

Hi,

In the general announcement in this link: Nextcloud Hub 10 – your unified, modular digital workspace - Nextcloud there is a chapter about “Remote backups”, but there is no more details and in the official documents there is no specific chapter or at least I could not find any details how it can be used. I also installed Nextcloud HUB 10 and I did not find any settings under administration menu. Can you please help me?

Thanks,
Imre

I use rclone to replicate/sync files from one Nextcloud to another at physically totally different backup location. Does not replicate database, just copies files via webdav.
HTH, Martin.

Yes. This feature is explicitely mentioned as a new feature in Nextcloud AIO: GitHub - nextcloud/all-in-one: 📦 The official Nextcloud installation method. Provides easy deployment and maintenance with most features included in this one Nextcloud instance.

Am I the only one who feels a bit mislead? The generic communication is not in line with the backup feature offered by Nextcloud. Or I totally misunderstand something. Anyhow thanks for all response. (BTW: I wrote a backup script which runs every day and backups everything to remote server. first day of the month does a full backup of nextcloud and all data plus DB dump and every other day of the month incremental and keep all backups for 2 months. It works fine, but I was interesting what a built in solution can offer, but I do not see anything.)

I think I can understand your problem. In the announcement for Nextcloud 31 (Hub 10) it says that there are remote backups. However, this only applies to Nextcloud AIO, even though it is stated there. Is that really such great information? Even if Nextcloud AIO is a great solution for many users, many will perhaps install as normal using LAMP, Docker, Snap, etc. These users will probably have to continue reading Backup and Restore. Until Nextcloud 28, there was also the app Backup . What happened to it? But in the end I think that administrators of Nextcloud have some knowledge about their Nextcloud installation as well as about linux. Maybe it’s a good thing if backups and restores don’t work blindly. The biggest problem will be that many Nextcloud administrators have probably never tried to restore their backup.
