Recommended Files in nextcloud android app cannot be hidden

Hi Devs,

I asked chatgpt if there is a solution but it there was non except disabling the Recommendations app.

Recommended files uses in the nextcloud-android-app about 20 % of my screen.
I used it sometimes in the webinterface but definitly wont use it in the android app.

Since there is no way to hide it individuelly I disabled the whole app.

Just wanted to let you know, if there is another solution I would be glad to read about it.

Thank you.

I was just looking at trying to find an option to do the same thing

That’s beyond me. Adding a new feature that no one is able to deactivate. Kinda enshitification of an app. In my case, a feature that takes a good chunk of my smartphone screen. The real issue is not whether this feature is present or not; the issue is forcing a feature on everyone—not making it as an option—as if everyone likes this forced feature.

Have you tried to disable it in the web interface?

At present it’s either on in your account for all of your used clients (web/mobile/etc) or off for all of them simultaneously.

For greater granularity, there are two approaches to implementing this I can think of off the top of my head:

  • a new setting in the Android/mobile apps specifically to disable it in them
  • a new setting in the web UI to enable it only in the Web versus for Mobile apps

I suggest creating an enhancement Issue in the Recommendations app repository if this interests you.
