Question about encryption

Hello all.

I have a question about encryption. How does it exactly work? Where does the encryption chain start? Is the users password used at some point? And if so, what happens if the user changes his password? Can someone point me to a detailled documentation maybe?

Also i noticed, Collabora is not working anymore if encryption is enabled. But this is an expected behaviour i guess?

It was designed for the use with external storage. On local storage, it doesn’t protect data like for external storage and the user can’t really trust on it. And there are some downsides like non-working 3rd-party apps.
